As a lifelong movie fan, I was thrilled to hear that what Steven Spielberg considers the ‘greatest’ film ever made is coming to a streaming service soon! Released back in 1972, it’s truly a classic – not just within the gangster genre, but just a phenomenal film overall.
Starting November 1st, you can watch The Godfather for free on Tubi. The classic film, starring Marlon Brando, Al Pacino, James Caan, Robert Duvall, and Diane Keaton, is based on Mario Puzo’s novel and won three Oscars, including Best Picture and Best Writing. Brando won a Best Actor Oscar for his performance as Don Vito Corleone, but famously didn’t accept the award in person. The original film was followed by two sequels: The Godfather Part II (1974), which also won six Oscars, and The Godfather Part III (1990), which received an Oscar nomination.
The classic film The Godfather is incredibly well-received, boasting scores of 97% from critics and 98% from audiences on Rotten Tomatoes, based on over 150 reviews and 250,000 ratings respectively. Currently, as of October 24th, The Godfather is the most popular movie to stream on Pluto TV in the United States, according to FlixPatrol.
During an awards ceremony in April 2025, acclaimed director Steven Spielberg, representing the American Film Institute, honored Francis Ford Coppola, the director of The Godfather. Spielberg declared The Godfather to be the greatest American film ever made, noting that the appreciation for Coppola came from a uniquely broad audience. He also described Coppola as “fearless,” praising his support for independent artists and his open-mindedness to new ideas and inspiration.
Al Pacino Honors His Late Godfather Co-Star
Diane Keaton, the actress known for her role as Kay Adams in The Godfather, died on October 11, 2025. Her co-star, Al Pacino, recently shared a heartfelt statement remembering her. Pacino and Keaton were also romantically involved in the 1980s. He said he was deeply saddened by the news, describing Keaton as a partner, friend, and a significant influence in his life. Even though they hadn’t been together for over 20 years, he said the memories of their time together were powerfully emotional.
She captivated audiences with a powerful and enchanting presence, displaying both fierce energy and gentle emotion. She was truly remarkable. While acting was her craft, it was just one outlet for her incredible imagination. People will mourn her loss, but they’ll remember her even more. She left a lasting impact that won’t be forgotten. She was strong, determined, and, most importantly, genuinely human. I will cherish my memories of her. She possessed a remarkable spirit—and in my heart, she will continue to soar, as Pacino so eloquently stated.
The Godfather hits Tubi on Nov. 1.
