In Ghost of Yotei, players can heavily customize their character, Atsu, with a wide range of cosmetic items like face masks, hats, and helmets. There’s also a large selection of sword kits and chest armor, each offering different color options. While most of these items are purely visual, the chest armor actually changes Atsu’s abilities, impacting how players experience Yotei and approach challenges, whether through combat or stealth. Because the game doesn’t allow you to change the appearance of equipped armor without changing its stats, players will need to decide if they prioritize a specific look or a gameplay advantage.
In Ghost of Yotei, three armor types significantly impact gameplay. Keep in mind that the special benefits of these armors only apply to the chest pieces.
3) Dragonfly Armor
Dragonfly Armor is a set of gear designed for players who focus on using bows and arrows. You can find it in the Tokachi Range, which is in the center of the map, at a place called Cairn Forks. It’s earned by completing the Tale mission called “The Dragonfly Armor.”
The Dragonfly Armor doesn’t just make your arrows hit harder – it changes how you use your bow. When equipped, a brief sparkle appears at the end of the arrow while aiming. If you fire just as the sparkle appears, your arrow will travel farther and deal more damage, making it great for long-distance shots. This works with any type of bow.
Landing a powerful arrow shot builds up your Concentration, which lets you slow down time in Ghost of Yotei. This is great for getting headshots, and with good timing, you can fire arrows in slow motion and take down enemies before they reach you. The Charm of Kibitsuhiko boosts Concentration even further with each headshot, making this strategy even more effective. Investing in either path of the Ranged skill tree will enhance these effects, either by letting you regain Concentration faster or extending how long it lasts.
The last benefit of the Dragonfly Armor allows Atsu to reload her arrows faster. Since loading Yotei can sometimes be slow, this perk speeds things up and lets her deal more damage. It’s especially helpful in fights, but also makes quick, stealthy shots a little easier.
2) Crimson Kimono

The Crimson Kimono is the most stealthy armor available. You earn it by completing the quest of the same name, found in Sakuru Woods, which is located in the frozen, northern part of Yotei called Teshio Ridge.
The Crimson Kimono is great for stealth, keeping you well-hidden. Once fully upgraded, it lets you perform two extra assassinations using kunai. If you combine this with either of the Chain Assassination skills, you can potentially eliminate up to five enemies in a single attack. This also fully charges Onyro’s Howl, potentially leading to even more free kills. What’s unique about this setup is that you can eliminate targets with kunai from a considerable distance, giving the build impressive range.
You can further boost its power by adding certain charms. The Assassin’s Resolve charm grants you Spirit with each assassination, the Charm of Opportunity automatically collects loot from defeated enemies, and the Charm of Izanagi restores your health after each kill.
The Crimson Kimono helps Atsu stay hidden by making enemies detect him more slowly. This makes him harder to spot, and it works especially well with other items. Combining it with the Charm of Lingering Shadows further slows enemy detection, while the Charm of the Wary Opponent lets you quickly target an enemy the moment they start to notice Atsu – similar to how Reflex Mode works in Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain.
The Crimson Kimono’s last benefit affects the kusarigama weapon – a chained sickle. With this kimono, you can perform kusarigama assassinations – quickly pulling distant enemies close to eliminate them – from a greater distance. This perk is quite specific, as it requires you to find the kusarigama in Teshio Ridge. Still, it’s very helpful, particularly if you also have the Iron Talon skill, which lets you perform these assassinations without using Spirit.
1) Bounty Master Armor

The Bounty Master Armor is a truly powerful set that can significantly improve your gameplay. You earn it by completing the “Soma the Condemned” bounty, which you’ll find posted on the bounty board in the Yotei Grasslands. This particular bounty takes place at Lake Jozan, located in the northwestern area of the grasslands.
The Bounty Master Armor functions similarly to the Sarugami Armor from the Iki Island DLC in Ghost of Tsushima (without the monkey design). It rewards precise timing by making perfect parries more powerful and disabling standard parries. It also widens the timing window for both perfect parries and dodges, and each successful perfect parry allows for three counterattacks instead of just one. This armor even boosts spirit gain, letting you use special moves more often.
This armor set focuses on a trade-off between risk and reward. While it’s harder to defend against attacks because standard blocks are less reliable, mastering the timing opens up powerful abilities, better healing, and stronger attacks.
Playing on Lethal difficulty adds a cool visual flair. Successfully parrying three times in a row often defeats enemies quickly, making it a useful tactic. However, the timing for perfect parries is demanding, so players can adjust the settings to make parrying easier if they prefer.
This build benefits greatly from using charms that reward skillful play. The Charm of Fearful Defense can scare enemies after a perfect parry, temporarily removing them from the fight, while Father’s Charm (and its upgrade, the Charm of Mount Yotei) restores your health with each successful parry. However, the Charm of Futsunushi is the most valuable, as it makes perfect parries and dodges easier to perform, allowing you to take full advantage of the benefits offered by the Bounty Master Armor.
