In 2025, Netflix started the year with a lot of exciting animated shows and movies, including new content based on Dr. Seuss, Jurassic World: Chaos Theory season 4, Unicorn Academy: Winter Solstice, and returning favorites like Gabby’s Dollhouse and Creature Cases. They aren’t stopping there – more projects are planned for the rest of the year. Their newest animated series, based on a popular children’s book from the 1980s, has already become a massive success, attracting millions of viewers when it first launched.
Roald Dahl is famous for books like Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Matilda, and Fantastic Mr. Fox. But his catalog includes many other wonderful stories, including Netflix’s new movie version of The Twits, which originally came out in the 1980s. The Twits quickly became popular, reaching number 5 on Netflix’s Top 10 list and earning 5.9 million views in its first week, even with competition from other types of movies.

Ruth Ware’s The Woman in Cabin 10 was the most-viewed title this week, racking up 30.1 million views. The Perfect Neighbor came in second with 16.7 million views, followed closely by KPop Demon Hunters at 16.2 million. My Father, the BTK Killer landed in fourth place with 6.4 million views. The Twits has received mixed reviews – 52% from critics and 57% from audiences on Rotten Tomatoes – but is still attracting viewers, making its final view count at the end of the month something to watch.
Meet Mr. and Mrs. Twit, arguably the most unpleasant people on Earth! They own and operate Twitlandia, an amusement park that’s as awful and dangerous as you’d expect. When two courageous orphans join forces with a magical animal family, they decide to put a stop to the Twits’ reign of terror over the town. But taking down the Twits will require a little bit of mischief and trickery of their own. Below is the original book’s description.
The Twits are a truly awful couple – they’re incredibly smelly and ugly, and they dislike pretty much everything. Their favorite activities involve playing nasty tricks on each other, trapping birds to make pies, and forcing their pet monkeys, the Muggle-Wumps, to perform silly, exhausting tricks all day. However, the Muggle-Wumps have finally had enough and aren’t just seeking freedom – they’re planning to get even with the Twits.
Netflix continues to bring Roald Dahl’s stories to life, having acquired the rights to his entire collection in 2021. They’ve already adapted titles like The Witches, Matilda the Musical, The Wonderful Story of Henry Sugar, The Ratcatcher, Poison, and The Swan. With The Twits now released, it will be exciting to see which of Dahl’s many imaginative stories Netflix tackles next.
The Twits is available to stream on Netflix now.
