Battlefield 6 has been a massive hit, surpassing all previous games in the series. After selling over 7 million copies last week, the developers at DICE are setting their sights on becoming leaders in the battle royale genre as well.
Everyone knows DICE is developing a Battle Royale mode for Battlefield, and now there’s a rumor it will launch on October 28, 2025 – that’s just around the corner! The information first appeared on X (formerly Twitter) from ModernWarzone, and here’s what they reported:
The upcoming free-to-play Battlefield 6 battle royale mode is now confirmed to be called “Battlefield: RedSec.” It will launch on October 28th, as we previously heard, but surprisingly, there won’t be any trailers or official reveals before the launch date. It’s going to be a complete surprise release – a ‘shadow drop’.
With the recent update to Battlefield 6, DICE also revealed some upcoming adjustments to the Battle Royale game mode.
- Close-range TTK: We’ve adjusted time-to-kill at close range for all weapons to reward clean positioning and tracking while giving players more time to counter attacks. We’ll keep monitoring this once it’s live.
- Armor Changes: Everyone will now have the capacity for 2 armor plates at the start of the game. All players will spawn with 1 plate, so you will have the chance to upgrade as soon as you start looting, giving everyone an equal chance at upgrading their armor fully.
- World Improvements: We’ve been fixing pesky world bugs and optimizing areas to improve the environment. With these improvements, we made adjustments to the lighting as well as enhancing the visibility across the map.
- Vehicle Balance: We’ve adjusted the balance for helicopters and combat vehicles to keep them as powerful tools showing off Battlefield’s core DNA, without making them necessary to survive or win the late game. This includes significant adjustments to the heli countermeasures and ammo economy.
- We have also been working on providing smoother performance overall. We have identified and addressed a range of issues that affected performance that we simply couldn’t have done without our players’ involvement in the tests.

Beyond official announcements, a lot of information has surfaced, even catching my attention as a former competitive gamer. Please note, everything below is based on unconfirmed reports. Currently, it seems the game will only offer Duos and Squads, with no Solo or Trio options available at this time.
Players can customize their gear during matches by earning and calling in loadouts, just like in Warzone. They’ll earn these by completing in-game tasks like bounties and completing demolitions. Plus, everyone will get one free loadout drop during the match at a specific time.
Players will be able to bring fallen teammates back into the game using revive stations. Currently, there’s no information suggesting a system like Warzone’s Gulag will be included.

The new map will feature a shrinking zone similar to those in previous Battlefield games, but hopefully it will be better designed than those experiences. I’m hoping it’s a truly dangerous zone that immediately eliminates players, unlike the gas in Warzone or the storm in Fortnite.
Given that this is a Battlefield-style battle royale, the rumor about vehicles being available seems most likely. Players will be able to find standard cars, tanks, and other armed vehicles. However, it’s believed that ammo will be limited to prevent players from dominating the game with tanks for extended periods.
If everything pans out, I’m likely going to be spending a lot of time playing RedSec right before ARC Raiders comes out. That kind of game is usually more my style, but maybe Battlefield will finally get me interested in Battle Royale again.
