New to Necesse 1.0 and feeling lost? This guide will help! The beginning of the game can be a bit much to take in with all the crafting, mining, surviving, and exploring. We’ll provide the key tips and tricks you need to get started and thrive.
Mobs
A great first step is to make use of creatures, or ‘mobs’. While you’ll get many resources by mining, that supply will eventually disappear. Mobs, on the other hand, can give you a steady stream of materials.

If you don’t light up all the areas around your base with torches, monsters will appear. This can be a good way to collect valuable items and resources. However, placing torches prevents monsters from spawning. You can obtain many essential items at the beginning of the game by strategically using this method.
Smart Mining
Here’s a helpful trick: turn on Smart Mining and set it to a button you’ll easily reach. When enabled, it highlights the block you’re about to mine or chop. This makes things much faster and prevents frustrating mistakes by ensuring you’re always targeting the correct block.

Crafting
Workbench Containers
One of the best parts of this game is being able to craft items using things you find nearby. When you’re at a workbench, make sure the “Use Nearby Inventories” option is enabled – it’s really helpful!

Place storage containers filled with crafting materials near your workbench. This makes crafting much faster because the workbench will automatically pull resources directly from those containers, instead of you having to move them from storage to your inventory and then to the workbench. It’s a really useful feature!

Crafting Guide
The Crafting Guide is a really useful feature in the game. Simply put an item into it, and it will tell you what you can make with it.
This tool helps you manage your items by identifying which ones can be used to create something new, labeling them as “Crafting Material”. It displays how items can be upgraded, so you can easily decide what to keep and what to discard. The more items you collect, the more helpful it becomes, visually guiding you through potential upgrades and progression.
Colony Storage System
Now that you have some villagers, you can start building storage systems for your colony. Here’s how:
- Create containers with different priorities
- Make specialized containers that include your high-priority items like weapons, food, bars, etc.
- Make low-priority chests that just have your various resources and extra materials.
You have full control over what goes into each chest. Villagers can now automatically organize items for you, eliminating the need to sort things by hand and saving you time. If you feel they’re sorting too slowly, you can adjust their hauling priority to speed things up.
Weapons
Seriously, don’t stop trying out all the different weapons! I’ve been experimenting, and it’s amazing how much hidden potential they have. The game doesn’t always tell you everything, and some weapons have secret bonuses or damage boosts that can make them way more powerful than you’d expect. You really need to play around and find those hidden strengths!

For example, the Berserk Rolling Pin has splash AOE damage that is not mentioned in-game.
I suggested holding onto most of the weapons, even the ones that don’t seem useful right now, because they might become powerful later as they can be upgraded and improved.
Explosives
Explosives can be really helpful! You’ll find plenty underground, and they’re fantastic for quickly clearing out large areas or dealing with enemies.
Mining is slow at the beginning of the game because your pickaxe isn’t very fast. However, you’ll eventually get better tools with enchantments that speed things up. That’s why using explosives early on can save you a lot of time when you’re digging underground.
Use your Villagers
Get the most out of your villagers! They can handle lots of different jobs, such as smelting ore and chopping down trees.
It’s helpful to put villagers to work on specific jobs, like farming or animal care, because those tasks need villagers with the right skills. When you automate these simpler tasks, you’ll free up time to focus on more important things. Setting this up early in the game can really pay off later on.
Gear Sets
Your equipment is important in this game. Unlike other games, you won’t level up skills or find special abilities in trees – your strength comes entirely from the gear you wear. Later on, you can further improve your gear through enchanting, giving you even more powerful bonuses.
When I first started playing, a lot of the gear I found was pretty basic and useful for anything. But the further I got, the more specialized things became. I started finding gear that was really good for certain builds, like if I was focusing on magic or a specific combat style. It’s cool because it lets you tailor your character, but it means you can’t just use everything you find anymore!

It’s helpful to have different sets of equipment for different areas and how you like to play. Some areas favor magic-focused characters, while others are better for those who summon creatures. Having various gear sets ensures you’re ready for whatever zone you decide to explore.
Base Building and Exploration
If you love collecting things, you’ll enjoy this game! You can pick up and take home almost anything you find. The more you explore the diverse environments, the more items you’ll discover, so it’s a good idea to start gathering resources early on.
The best thing is, once you’ve found a plant or resource, you can usually grow more at your base. However, you’ll still need to explore to discover new types.

The core gameplay involves a continuous cycle of exploring to collect materials, expanding your base, and then heading out to find even more. This creates a never-ending experience, as there’s always something new to discover and work towards.
Quests
Quests aren’t essential in this game. While they offer nice rewards, you’ll get just as much from exploring the world. Plus, teaming up with friends to take on bosses can be even more worthwhile! So don’t feel pressured to follow quests – just explore and have fun.
That covers all the essential tips for getting started in Necesse! No matter if you’re digging for resources, venturing into the unknown, or building the base of your dreams, each playthrough will teach you something new. So go ahead and begin crafting your own adventure, one swing of the axe at a time!
