EastEnders confirms casting for Eve Panesar-Unwin’s estranged mother Norma as we finally meet her for new storyline

EastEnders has announced a new cast member: Heather Peace’s character, Eve Panesar-Unwin, will soon be joined by her mother on the show, appearing on screen next week.

As viewers may remember, Eve doesn’t have a close relationship with her mother, stemming from a difficult childhood.

The conflict began after Eve’s identical twin sister, Erica, died in a car accident in 1993. Even though Eve wasn’t at fault, her parents blamed her for the tragedy. Later, when she came out as gay, her father harshly criticized her.

At 19, she ended her relationship with her mother and aunt after they subjected her to hateful, homophobic attacks.

Recently, she’s found the courage to visit and apologize to them, but she also confided in her wife, Suki (Balvinder Sopal), that they still have doubts about her marriage. As a result, they didn’t attend the wedding last year.

Eve shared that doctors had told her she wouldn’t be able to have children, and that’s why she hadn’t thought about becoming a mother before now.

As Eve and her partner start the process of adopting, Eve’s mother, Norma, is arriving in Walford. Actress Jessica Turner will play the role.

Viewers of British TV dramas might remember Jessica from appearances in shows like Doctors, The Bill, and Heartbeat. She’s also had roles in classic comedies like Terry and June, alongside popular crime series such as Prime Suspect, Midsomer Murders, and Law & Order: UK.

Eve is anxious about Norma’s visit. They’re counting on a good recommendation from Mr. Unwin to help move forward with the adoption, but getting him to provide one might be challenging.

Norma unexpectedly said yes, and the couple tried hard to convince her they’d be wonderful parents. Eve realized this whole plan was her mother’s, and knew her mom could easily ruin everything if she wanted to.

Honestly, it’s heartbreaking to watch. I really started to worry when Norma began doubting if Eve would be a good mom. It just felt like things were falling apart, and I was really rooting for them both, so it was tough to see her question Eve’s ability to be a mother.

Eve starts to doubt the plan, and lets Suki know she wants to cancel it. Suki is understandably upset and unexpectedly asks Lily Slater (Lillia Turner) for help.

Norma’s first scenes will air on Monday 3rd November.
