After a long development process with many different elements, Crimson Desert is finally coming together. A recent preview from IGN details the game’s activities beyond combat – things like interacting with the many factions that populate its beautiful open world.
However, it’s important to note that these factions aren’t like those in games such as Fallout. They won’t impact the main storyline or how the game ends, whether you side with them or against them. You will encounter quests involving these groups – for example, you might work with the House of Wells and its Duke to reclaim a fortress and fight against rebels.
Ultimately, the game’s factions aren’t about choosing sides in a grand conflict, but rather act as important characters who offer additional quests and content. This isn’t necessarily a bad thing – games like The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt and Ghost of Yōtei featured fantastic side quests that didn’t affect the main storyline. However, it’s still unclear whether Pearl Abyss can create faction quests with the same compelling storytelling.
Crimson Desert will be released on March 19, 2026, for Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 5, and PC. A new gameplay video shows off an exciting fight against a massive mechanical dragon called Golden Star. You can also discover the various mounts available in the game, including a unique mech built by dwarves.
