New Assassin’s Creed Shadows Update Makes Big Improvement to Key Mechanic

A recent update to Assassin’s Creed Shadows significantly improves a core part of the game. Since launching in early 2025, Ubisoft has consistently released updates, adding new features and fixing bugs. This latest update includes both improvements and fixes.

The latest update, version 1.1.4, for Assassin’s Creed Shadows is now available on PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC. A major focus of this update is improving parkour, with a new “Advanced Parkour” setting giving players greater freedom and control over movement. Players can also explore newly added “Corrupted Castles” which offer a more challenging experience. This update also includes numerous bug fixes addressing issues with quests, graphics, and overall performance.

In addition to the latest update, Ubisoft has confirmed that Assassin’s Creed Shadows is coming to the Nintendo Switch 2 on December 2nd, 2025. The Switch 2 version of the game will be very similar to the versions on other consoles, but will also include unique features designed for Nintendo’s hardware.

You can find the complete list of changes in today’s Assassin’s Creed Shadows update in the patch notes linked below.

Assassin’s Creed Shadows Update 1.1.4 Patch Notes

Corrupted Castles

Corrupted Castles offer a fresh way to experience familiar locations. Castles you’ve already completed can now become corrupted, filled with dangerous Animus anomalies like the Corrupted Samurai Daisho, which are more aggressive and move differently. Defeating all the enemies in a Corrupted Castle unlocks a chest containing valuable Gear and Gold, making each attempt worthwhile.

From level 30 onwards, and once you’ve finished at least three castles, up to five corrupted castles will show up on the map each season. This gives you chances to revisit these castles at higher levels and earn even better rewards.

New Parkour Update

We’ve heard your thoughts on the first Parkour update and are excited to share more improvements! Our team has been working hard to refine the experience of moving through Feudal Japan.

Advanced Parkour Feature

We’re introducing a new “Advanced Parkour” option in the game settings. Turning this on unlocks more creative movement possibilities by letting you perform side and back flips from any height – basically removing all parkour restrictions! Get ready to attempt some seriously daring and spectacular parkour runs!

Advanced Parkour: Side & Back Ejects

The new Advanced Parkour setting gives you more precise control when ejecting to the side or back. Pressing the ‘Parkour Up’ button during a side or back jump still lets you reach your landing spot as expected – this functionality hasn’t been altered from the last parkour update.

If there’s no good place to land straight on, you can now launch to the side or backwards as far as you need to, without worrying about gaining or losing altitude.

Advanced Parkour: Side Eject Down

Okay, so I learned this the hard way: if you try to side eject while doing parkour, you’re basically falling straight down and ending up near where you started. Forget about getting any extra height with that move – it just brings you down fast!

The new Advanced Parkour setting lets you fine-tune the experience, and we think parkour experts will especially appreciate the extra control!

General Parkour Improvements

Now let’s discuss the general parkour enhancements we’ve made – these improvements will function regardless of whether you enable the Advanced Parkour setting.

Vertical Ledge Grab (Non-Standing Objects)

We’ve expanded the ledge grab feature so you can now grab onto more objects while parkouring, like beams and lanterns. It’s a small change that should make movement feel even better!

Manual Jump (Non-Standing Objects)

As a huge fan of the Non-Standing Objects, I’m so excited about the new Manual Jump feature! It’s going to let us get really creative with parkour – think finding cool shortcuts and making those rooftop runs even more fun. I can’t wait to try it out and see what awesome routes people discover!

This is not a full manual jump. This only works from Non-Standing Objects.

Directional Catch Ledge

We’re excited to bring back a popular feature: Directional Catch Ledge! Now, when you’re near a ledge, just move towards it and press the Parkour Up button to grab on and avoid falling.

This feature functions no matter how high up you are, and it’s especially helpful if you’re using the Advanced Parkour setting, or if you misjudge a jump when using your grapple hook.

Gold Weapons

The Gold and Long Katanas released in Title Update 1.1.2 remain exclusive to New Game Plus. However, we’ve added brand new Gold weapons that you can unlock by completing specific challenges.

  • Tanto -Complete all Legendary Sumi-e
  • Bow – Complete all Horse Archery
  • Kusarigama – Complete all Meditation
  • Naginata – Complete all Kata
  • Kanabo – Reach level 100
  • Teppo – Reach Hideout level 13

Additional Highlights

Anomalies

We’ve made some adjustments to the game. Starting July, we increased the number of weekly Anomalies to help players advance more quickly. To keep things balanced, we’ll be reducing the number of Keys awarded in the Infinite Reward tier from 400 to 100 on October 28th.

Once you’ve received all the rewards from your current Project, we highly recommend starting a new one. This is the best way to discover fresh content and earn more Keys.

  • In the Projects menu, the Anomalies tab will now be accessible from the rewards page instead of the menu’s landing page.
  • With the release of Corrupted Castles, a related Anomaly will be available in every weekly rotation to award Data Fragments for completing this new activity.
