Vampire Survivors drops a bucketload of new content with a Balatro collab and an “expansion within an expansion” — and it’s not over yet

I thought I was already obsessed with Vampire Survivors, but Poncle keeps finding ways to make me love it even more! They’ve released a bunch of unexpected updates recently, like a free collaboration with the card game Balatro, and they’re even adding to the existing Castlevania content. That’s right – the Castlevania expansion is getting bigger!

Update 1.14 is now available on PC and PlayStation, and will be released on Xbox by Friday. This update includes a new mini-DLC called “Ante Chamber,” inspired by the game Balatro, along with two new stages – Mazerella and Westwoods – and online co-op play. There’s also a lot of hidden content to discover! Everything is free, but you’ll need to own the ‘Ode to Castlevania’ content pack to unlock its extra bonus features.

Let’s break it all down.

Vampire Survivors: Ante Chamber is the Balatro crossover I’ve been waiting for

Balatro, a game I really enjoyed on my Steam Deck last year, recently got a crossover with Vampire Survivors through its ‘Friends of Jimbo’ update. It was only a matter of time before Jimbo appeared in Vampire Survivors too! The new Antechamber expansion includes:

  • 4 new playable characters
  • 4 new weapons
  • A brand new stage
  • A remix of Balatro’s main theme
  • Fresh gameplay mechanic called ‘Survarots’

Survarots are a new addition to the game that modify your character’s stats and skills, similar to Arcana cards, but based on characters from Vampire Survivors. Right now, you can use them with Secretino and any characters unlocked in the Ante Chamber.

Best of all, it’s a free update for existing players! I recently finished playing another great bullet hell game, Ball x Pit, on my Xbox ROG Ally X, and I’m excited to jump into this next – it’s good to know I’m getting the most out of that powerful Z2 Extreme processor.

Online co-op finally arrives

Vampire Survivors just got even more chaotic with the release of update 1.14, which introduces online co-op! Now you and up to three friends can play together and level up as a team. The leveling system is synchronized, meaning everyone levels up at the same time – so in a four-player game, you’ll all level up every four levels. This update also adds…

  • Free Roam: you’re no longer locked to the same screen, everyone can move independently (just don’t trigger a boss alone)
  • Spectator Mode: If you die, you can jump between living players and respawn near them
  • Achievements carry over to your own save at the end of a run
  • Pause only pauses for you and nobody else
  • No speed up function in online play for stability reasons

Currently, to play online co-op, everyone needs to have the same downloadable content. However, Poncle has announced they’re working on removing this requirement in a future update.

Westwoods

The latest update to Westwoods introduces a luck and gambling theme, featuring challenges centered around collecting Little Clovers and spinning fortune wheels. To access this new stage, you’ll need to gather 23 Little Clovers. It also includes a Party Mode where you can surprisingly control up to four characters simultaneously! Plus, there’s a new Darkana to unlock and a brand new character to play as.

Mazerella, the labyrinth stage

Mazerella is a challenging new level designed like a complex maze, filled with hidden secrets and unlockable content. You’ll need to reach level 80 in the Inverse Dairy Plant to access it. Expect to find even more relics, character evolutions, and ways to push the game to its limits.

Ode to Castlevania expansion gets an expansion

As an analyst, I’ve been watching *Ode to Castlevania*, and it’s become a much bigger hit than anyone anticipated – seriously, the community buzz is incredible. And now, Poncle has just expanded it even further by adding:

  • 16 new ssecret characters
  • 3 new weapons and evolutions
  • 13 new weapon unions
  • 1 new adventure (the story mode of the game)
  • 12 new music tracks

After finishing the initial unlocks in the Ode to Castlevania DLC, visit the Secrets menu to find out how to unlock the bonus characters.

Hold fire on Xbox

We regret to inform Xbox players that the 1.14 update is delayed. We submitted the update for certification and will release it on Xbox as soon as it’s approved. We apologize for the inconvenience. October 28, 2025

Update 1.14 is now available on all platforms except Xbox. The Xbox version is currently undergoing certification, but Poncle expects it to be released by Friday.

What’s next for Vampire Survivors?

Honestly, I can’t believe there’s still more coming! Poncle has hinted at two more announcements for November, and if the Balatro collaboration wasn’t the biggest reveal they had planned, I’m genuinely excited – and a little baffled – to see what they’ve got up their sleeve next month.

The developers have shared some details about a big update planned for 2026. It will focus on improving the player experience with quality-of-life changes, performance enhancements, and more save slots, along with some new content. While they describe it as ‘a bit more content,’ fans know Vampire Survivors usually delivers much bigger updates – and this one will conclude the current content roadmap, so keep an eye out for more information!
