One Piece Creator May Have Fumbled the Best Girl & It’s Only Because of One Reason

Eiichiro Oda’s One Piece features many compelling characters, but Nico Robin stands out. First appearing as an enemy during the Alabasta storyline, she eventually teams up with Luffy to defeat Crocodile and later joins his crew. While the Straw Hat Pirates were initially wary of her, she quickly became a valued member. After their journey to Sky Island, the crew was separated in Water 7, and they soon discovered Robin had made a huge sacrifice. They bravely put themselves in danger to save her from execution at Enies Lobby. Beyond being a pirate, Robin is hunted by the World Government because she can read ancient texts called Poneglyphs, which hold secrets about a forbidden period of history known as the Void Century.

Reaching the final island, Laugh Tale, requires understanding the ancient Poneglyphs, making Robin absolutely essential to the crew. Even without her fighting skills, this ability alone would make her the most valuable member of the Straw Hats. However, she’s also a powerful fighter thanks to her Devil Fruit powers, making her a well-rounded asset. After more than twenty years, it’s surprising she hasn’t mastered a more common ability.

One Piece Creator Has No Reason to Stop Robin From Using Haki

The world of One Piece features many popular and powerful female characters like Robin, Nami, and Princess Vivi. However, most of them don’t possess the ability to use Haki, a special power that enhances strength and defense. Only a few, such as Big Mom, Boa Hancock, and Jewelry Bonney, can. This is especially true for fan favorites like Robin, who is now a high-priority target with a bounty exceeding one billion berries. Despite not using Haki, Robin has become incredibly strong through mastering her Devil Fruit powers, as demonstrated by her impressive Demonio Fleur during the Wano arc.

Considering she’s spent two decades evading the Marines and bounty hunters, it’s surprising that Nico Robin doesn’t possess even basic Observation Haki. It’s also important to remember she’s a key fighter for the Straw Hats, right after Luffy, Zoro, and Sanji, and is far from helpless. During the two years the crew was separated, Robin trained with the Revolutionary Army, where she significantly improved her abilities.

Given where we are in the story – the second part of the final saga – there’s no good reason why this character hasn’t been given a fairly common ability that even beginner-level soldiers possess. While fans speculate she might learn it later, the author’s plans are uncertain. Despite the creator’s apparent reluctance to grant this and other female characters such powers, she has consistently demonstrated her importance and value as a character.
