Season four of The Witcher has arrived on Netflix, and viewers can rest easy knowing the story will continue after that cliffhanger ending – the show has been renewed!
Even with all the debate about the show’s direction and the change in actors, including Henry Cavill, the fantasy series is still a major success for Netflix. They’ve already renewed it for a fifth season, even before the fourth season began filming.
The next installment of this long-running series will be its last, raising questions about the future of the franchise after recent spin-offs like Blood Origin, Nightmare of the Wolf, and Sirens of the Deep weren’t well-received.
Liam Hemsworth is returning as Geralt for season 5 of The Witcher, and Freya Allan and Anya Chalotra are also likely to reprise their roles. Here’s an update on what’s been revealed so far.
The Witcher season 5 release date speculation

Season five of The Witcher has been filmed and is confirmed to happen, though Netflix hasn’t announced when the final episodes will be released.
In April 2024, Netflix announced that season 5 of The Witcher is planned, and will be filmed alongside season 4. This will conclude the popular fantasy series.
Filming for the fifth season finished in late September 2025, and now the show is in post-production. Because the series relies heavily on visual effects, this post-production phase is expected to take a significant amount of time.
Considering the production timeline, the fifth season of The Witcher likely won’t be available on Netflix until fall or winter of 2026. However, even that would be the fastest release of a new season we’ve seen so far.
The Witcher season 5 cast

Liam Hemsworth will return as Geralt of Rivia for The Witcher season 5, with Freya Allan and Anya Chalotra reprising their roles as Ciri and Yennefer, respectively. This season may be the last time we see these actors in their iconic roles.
The current story arc will be the show’s last, but there’s a chance the characters could reappear in future spin-offs or animated specials.

The Witcher season 5 plot theories

Netflix has announced that season 5 of The Witcher will finish adapting Andrzej Sapkowski’s book series, using the storylines from the final two novels, The Tower of the Swallow and The Lady of the Lake.
Since seasons 4 and 5 of The Witcher were filmed at the same time, showrunner Lauren Schmidt Hissrich explains that while they’ll be released as two seasons, they’re essentially one continuous story.
Season 5 of The Witcher will likely finish the storylines started in season four and bring them to a satisfying close, mirroring the ending of Andrzej Sapkowski’s novel, The Lady of the Lake.
