And just like that, another season of All Creatures Great and Small has been and gone.

Season 6 heavily focused on change, bringing us back to the characters after a significant leap forward in time – and establishing that the war was officially over at the start.

James and Helen were getting used to life with two children in their new home in Heston. Meanwhile, Siegfried was having a difficult time without Mrs. Hall, who had been living with her son for several years. Her return to Skeldale was a relief, as her absence had noticeably impacted both the veterinary practice and the working relationship between Siegfried and James.

Tristan found love, but he was also struggling with the emotional wounds – PTSD – from his time serving, making things complicated.

Jenny Alderson, now grown up, went to London to train as a nurse. Her sister, Helen, went with her to help her settle in and get started with this new chapter.

But what’s next? Are there plans to head back to Skeldale? And when might new episodes arrive?

Is All Creatures Great and Small returning for season 7?

There’s currently no official word on the show’s future.

Callum Woodhouse is equally keen to return, though he believes “there is an end in sight”.

He advised against overstaying your welcome, explaining that it’s best to leave before things start to feel forced or tiresome.

But he’s confident that point is still far off.

Honestly, I’m really excited because I don’t think this is the end! There are definitely more stories we can explore, and while I don’t see us stopping immediately, I also don’t believe this will last forever. It feels like a really good run, but we’ll see what the future holds.

But in the meantime, there’s the annual All Creatures Christmas special to look forward to.

Later this year, viewers can also enjoy “And All Creatures Great and Small: Behind the Magic,” a one-hour program offering a look at how the show is made.

When could a potential All Creatures Great and Small season 7 air?

As a longtime viewer of All Creatures Great and Small, I’ve come to expect a new season every year since 2020 – and so far, they’ve consistently delivered, with five seasons arriving in September and one in October. If they decide to make a seventh season, my guess is we’ll be seeing it around September or October of 2026.

Who could return for a potential All Creatures Great and Small season 7?

We’d expect to see the following back on our screens:

  • Nicholas Ralph as James Herriot
  • Rachel Shenton as Helen Herriot
  • Callum Woodhouse as Tristan Farnon
  • Samuel West as Siegfried Farnon
  • Anna Madeley as Mrs Hall

I was really excited to see Tony Pitts playing Richard Alderson, and Patricia Hodge was just perfect as Mrs. Pumphrey – and of course, Derek the dog completely stole the show as Tricki Woo! Mollie Winnard also did a fantastic job as Maggie.

With Tristan deciding to stay, it seems very probable that Gaia Wise, who plays Charlotte Beauvoir, will also return, especially since their relationship was blossoming.

Honestly, I’m still waiting to find out when Imogen Clawson will be back as Jenny Alderson. I know Jenny’s off at nursing school in London now, but I really hope we get to see her again – I’m curious to see what they do with her character!

And, as ever, there will be plenty of new guest stars.

What could happen in a potential All Creatures Great and Small season 7?

As usual for All Creatures Great and Small, we can look forward to many more touching stories about people and animals if the show is renewed for a seventh season.

Tristan experienced a severe PTSD episode at the end of season six, and this is likely to be a major part of his story going forward. Despite finding a connection with Siegfried during that difficult time, viewers can still expect them to argue and disagree in future episodes.

It seems like things are getting serious between him and Charlotte – they could be a long-term couple.
