Liam Neeson’s Divisive Remake of 1980s Action Classic Becomes a Streaming Success, 15 Years Later

2025 marked a turning point for Liam Neeson. After years of appearing in fairly standard action films, he took a risk with the reboot of The Naked Gun. While the movie still has action, it’s primarily a comedy, allowing Neeson to showcase his comedic talent with funny references to shows like Buffy the Vampire Slayer and even a snowman. The Naked Gun feels like a welcome change and demonstrates that Neeson is capable of much more than just playing tough action heroes.

Audiences are really enjoying this latest take on Liam Neeson, and it’s already earned $100 million worldwide in theaters. But the excitement doesn’t stop when they leave the cinema. On Netflix, another Neeson action film, The A-Team, is also proving popular. In October 2025, the 2010 movie is performing exceptionally well in the US, even breaking into the Top 10 most-watched films despite strong competition.

One of Liam Neeson’s Biggest Flops Is Getting a Second Chance

Hollywood has a knack for rebooting classic TV shows from the 70s and 80s as movies. The latest example is a Buck Rogers film, with Deadpool & Wolverine writer Zeb Wells on board to write the script. It’s expected to draw heavily from the original 1979 series and earlier versions of the character. While there’s no release date yet, if this project follows the pattern of The A-Team movie, fans might have to wait a while.

It took more than ten years for the concept of a movie featuring Hannibal, Face, B.A., and Howling Mad to finally get approved by 20th Century Fox. Joe Carnahan was chosen as the director, and Liam Neeson, Bradley Cooper, Quinton “Rampage” Jackson, and Sharlto Copley were cast as the main characters. The star power of these actors helped The A-Team earn nearly $200 million in theaters, which is a significant amount. However, despite interest from the cast, a sequel never materialized. Interestingly, streaming viewers don’t seem to care about the film’s history – they simply enjoy it as an entertaining movie.

Continued Success on Streaming Could Get an A-Team Sequel Off the Ground

We’ve seen several times that streaming services can revive older shows, proving they still have an audience. While The A-Team hasn’t quite reached that point yet, it’s gaining momentum. Liam Neeson’s recent success is likely helping to bring the show back into the spotlight, but the rest of the cast also deserves recognition. Bradley Cooper continues to create critically acclaimed films, and any project featuring Sharlto Copley is generally considered a win.

The company that owns the rights to The A-Team might not want to revive the show. It’s unusual for failed projects to get another shot. But with the rise of streaming, it could be worth considering, especially if the movie remains popular on Netflix’s Top 10 list.
