New Final Fantasy 14 Update Is a Huge Win for Fans

Though it had a difficult beginning, Final Fantasy 14 has been thriving for over 12 years. As with any ongoing online game, it receives regular updates that expand the story and improve the player experience. Currently in its 7th major expansion, Dawntrail, Final Fantasy 14 is preparing to launch a new content patch on December 16th, and the initial announcement has players very excited.

On October 31st, the official Final Fantasy 14 account on X announced details for the upcoming Patch 7.4. The update launches December 16th and includes several new features, but the biggest change is to the game’s Glamour system. Patch 7.4 will let players customize their character’s appearance with much more freedom, as Glamour will no longer be restricted by character class.

Final Fantasy 14 Glamours Update Is About to Give Players Creative Freedom

Beginning December 16th, Final Fantasy 14 players will have the freedom to use any cosmetic outfits, called ‘glamours,’ on their characters, no matter what class or job they play. Previously, glamours were limited by class, a restriction that’s been in place since the system was introduced in a past update. Now, players will finally be able to customize their character’s appearance without these limitations, and fans are very excited about the possibilities!

Players are thrilled that the long-standing restrictions on character appearance are finally being removed. This means tank classes, in particular, can now customize their outfits to their liking, and everyone is excited to create new looks when the update releases. The response has been overwhelmingly positive, with many calling it the best update ever! Some players are even predicting they’ll need more storage space for all the new outfits they plan to collect.

There are a few details to keep in mind. While you can use cosmetic items regardless of your class or level, weapons and tools will still be limited to the classes that can actually wield them – this is because of how they’re shown in the game. So, you’ll have freedom with clothing and other appearances, but weapons will remain class-specific. Still, this is a significant change that many Final Fantasy 14 players have requested for a long time.

Patch 7.4 is a major update with a lot to offer, and while one particular feature is getting a lot of attention, there’s much more coming! Players can look forward to a new PvP map for Frontlines, a new Hell on Rails Trial, additional dungeons, and new Main Scenario Quests. Producer Naoki Yoshida (Yoshi-P) recently detailed everything in a livestream on Twitch. You can find a replay of the livestream on the official Final Fantasy 14 Twitch channel to hear directly from Yoshida about all the changes in Patch 7.4.
