James Gunn is making bold moves with the DC Universe. Following the positive reception to Superman, he’s been diligently refining the script for its sequel, Man of Tomorrow. The film will feature a significantly expanded role for Lex Luthor, who will surprisingly team up with the hero he previously attempted to destroy to combat a new danger. This all sounds incredibly promising, and excitement is building as the movie is scheduled for release in July 2027 – just under two years away. This quick turnaround is remarkable, particularly for DC films.
Matt Reeves spent almost five years writing the script for The Batman Part II. Progress was slow, and it began to seem like the movie might not happen. Thankfully, once Reeves finished the script, things moved forward. James Gunn and his team were very impressed with the script, and now the sequel is officially back on track. The latest news is that a well-known name from the Star Wars franchise is joining the project.
The Batman Part II Is Bringing a Star Wars Heavyweight Into the Fold

Beyond its compelling story and strong acting, the most impressive aspect of The Batman is its stunning production design. Gotham City feels incredibly realistic, with distinctive architecture and a sense of history. Unlike previous Batman films where the city felt like a temporary set, The Batman‘s Gotham is a fully realized place. This is largely thanks to production designer James Chinlund, who often works with director Matt Reeves.
I’m really excited about The Batman Part II, and it sounds like director Matt Reeves is building an amazing team! I just read that Luke Hull is joining as the production designer, and that’s a huge deal. He’s been doing fantastic work on TV shows like Chernobyl and Howards End, but what really got my attention is his work on Star Wars: Andor. Apparently, he prefers building actual sets instead of relying on virtual backgrounds, and that’s exactly the kind of grounded, realistic feel I loved in the first Batman movie. I can’t wait to see what he brings to Gotham!
Doug Hull’s stunning work designing the worlds for a famous sci-fi galaxy earned him an Emmy Award. He’s now hoping to win an Oscar at the 2028 Academy Awards, but understands that visual effects alone aren’t enough to guarantee success – a film also needs a great story and strong performances.
It’s Only a Matter of Time Before the Real Fun Begins With The Batman Part II

I’m really excited about ‘The Batman’ and while it’s fantastic news that they’ve hired a production designer as talented as Hull, I know what most fans – including me – are really waiting for: the cast announcements! It seems like they’re taking their time to find the perfect actors to join Robert Pattinson, Jeffrey Wright, and everyone else, and I’m sure it’ll be worth the wait when we finally hear who’s joining the project. I don’t think we’ll have to wait much longer, though!
As a huge fan, I’ve been following all the buzz about who might show up in Matt Reeves’ script – I’ve heard whispers about Robin and even Mister Freeze! Honestly, it’s no surprise actors are eager to be part of it. After the first movie, everyone knows Reeves is going to deliver a visually stunning film, so it’s a project nobody wants to miss out on.
The Batman Part II hits theaters on October 1, 2027.
