The next movie in James Gunn’s DC Universe will focus on Supergirl, following Milly Alcock’s first appearance in the 2025 film starring David Corenswet. The first chapter of the DCU, “Gods and Monsters,” is quickly establishing its key Kryptonian characters, and Supergirl—Kara Zor-El—will be the main focus next year.
David Krumholtz, who plays Zor-El in the upcoming Supergirl movie, recently spoke with Nerdtropolis about how the film will closely follow the Woman of Tomorrow graphic novel it’s based on. He confirmed that the movie will be very faithful to the source material, and also revealed that Jason Momoa will be playing Lobo in the film. Essentially, the movie will combine the story from the comic book with the character of Lobo.
Krumholtz shared that he’s excited to contribute to the ongoing story of Krypton and explore the history of the El family. Emily Beecham will also appear in the film, playing Alura In-Ze, the mother of Kara.
The movie Superman revealed a surprising twist: Kal-El wasn’t sent to Earth to simply survive, but to eventually rule the planet and rebuild Krypton there, a fact exposed by Lex Luthor. Now, with Supergirl, the introduction of Zor-El (Jor-El’s brother), along with Alura and Kara, suggests the DC Universe is expanding the story of the House of El.
Craig Gillespie directed the new Supergirl movie, which was written by Ana Nogueira. Nogueira adapted the story from the popular DC Comics miniseries Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow by Tom King and Bilquis Evely. This film marks Supergirl’s first solo appearance on the big screen since Helen Slater starred in a movie about the character in 1984.
The upcoming Supergirl movie will include Matthias Schoenaerts as Krem of the Yellow Hills and Eve Ridley as Ruthye Marye Knoll, characters from the original comic books. Besides Supergirl, DC Studios has another film planned for 2026: Clayface, which is scheduled to be released on September 11th.
Supergirl will arrive in theaters on June 26, 2026.
