Glen Powell might be joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe in a significant role. One of the writers for the upcoming Avengers: Doomsday hopes to cast him in a part that could bring Josh Brolin’s character, Thanos, back to the franchise. Thanos was the central villain in the two highest-grossing Marvel films, Avengers: Infinity War and Endgame, and fans have been eager to see what happens to him next.
At the conclusion of the Infinity Saga, Iron Man eliminated the villain Thanos and his entire army. While animated versions of Thanos have shown up in a few Marvel TV series since then, the main version of the character hasn’t appeared in any recent Marvel movies or shows. However, if actor Jonathan Powell joins the Marvel Cinematic Universe as a powerful cosmic hero, that could potentially bring Thanos back into the picture.
Avengers: Doomsday Writer‘s Role For Glen Powell Is A Cosmic Hero
Michael Waldron, the creator of Disney+’s Loki and writer of Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, is helping to write the next Avengers film. He also co-created the comedy series Chad Powers with Glen Powell. When asked if Powell might join the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Waldron said he believes Powell would be a great fit for the role of Nova.
James Gunn chose not to include Nova in the Guardians of the Galaxy films to limit the team to one human member, Star-Lord, played by Chris Pratt. Despite this, Marvel Studios recognizes the potential of Richard Rider, and was actively developing a Nova series. Although the series is currently on hold, an actor like Powell could help revive the project.
Nova Is The Perfect Hero To Bring Back Thanos Via Flashbacks
A Nova series would be a perfect way to show Thanos getting the Power Stone and finally reveal a missing piece of his story. Although Avengers: Infinity War depicted Thanos with most of the Infinity Stones, the movie began with him already having the Power Stone. Fans never actually saw him destroy Xandar to obtain it, and a Nova series could fill that gap.
Since Xandar is where the Nova Corps is based, any Nova series in the Marvel Cinematic Universe would need to address it. The series could be set in the past, showing the destruction of Xandar and the Nova Corps, leaving Richard Rider as the only one who survived. Alternatively, the show could tell the story of that event through flashbacks while focusing on Nova’s present-day adventures.
Nova Could Also Lead To Thanos’ Return In The MCU’s Present

The Nova series could be really compelling if it showed flashbacks of Thanos destroying Xandar, alongside the current story of Richard Rider trying to prevent Thanos’s return. This idea draws from the Marvel comics, where Nova was a member of the Guardians of the Galaxy who worked to stop Thanos from coming back to life.
A fourth Guardians of the Galaxy movie could be a great opportunity to introduce a significant storyline. If Glen Powell were cast as Nova, it would add enough star power to make a potential Thanos return a major event within the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Nova is already a promising character, but with Powell in the role, he could become a truly standout hero for the MCU.
