We’re getting our first glimpse of the new series Cooper & Fry, featuring an unlikely detective pair, which was announced earlier in the year.
The new Channel 5 crime series stars Rob James-Collier, known for his role in Downton Abbey, and Mandip Gill, who previously appeared in Doctor Who. They play the lead detectives in the show.
A new trailer offers a first look at detectives Ben Cooper (James-Collier) and Diane Fry (Gill) and their challenging working relationship. The two officers, with contrasting approaches, team up to investigate unsettling cases in the Peak District.
The upcoming story has a dark and intriguing atmosphere, feeling both eerie and deeply emotional. The personalities of James-Collier and Gill’s characters really stand out.
The new series takes place in the mysterious Peak District, where Detective Constable Ben Cooper, a friendly local, is paired with the more reserved Detective Constable Diane Fry to solve a series of puzzling deaths.

These two will team up to investigate unusual cases, but Fry is far more doubtful than Cooper when it comes to local legends and superstitions.
As they work together, their personal lives will naturally overlap, and a close, unusual friendship will develop.
The story ends with Cooper and Fry discovering ancient traditions and customs, and needing to depend on one another both to solve the case and stay alive.
I’m so excited for this new series! It’s based on the fantastic Stephen Booth novels I’ve been reading for ages. What’s really cool is that each of the four episodes will actually cover one of the books, and they’re going to be two hours long – plenty of time to really get into the story!
The show’s first season will cover the stories from the first four books: Black Dog, Dying to Sin, Blind To the Bones, and Dancing with the Virgins.
We may just have a new crime obsession!
