After a few weeks since its release on Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2, many Pokémon fans have already finished the main story of Pokémon Legends: Z-A. While some players move on to new games after seeing the credits, others are just starting the real adventure, particularly those who enjoy hunting for rare, shiny Pokémon, and will likely spend many more hours playing.
A recent discovery in Pokemon Legends: Z-A allows players to easily duplicate shiny Pokemon, and Game Freak hasn’t patched the issue yet. Combined with the game’s generally easier shiny-catching mechanics compared to Pokemon Legends: Arceus, players are finding a lot more shiny Pokemon than usual. However, one player recently made a mistake while shiny hunting, and it’s a good reminder for everyone to be careful.
Remember To…
When players are trying to find shiny Pokémon, they sometimes step away from the game – this is often called going AFK (away from keyboard). However, it’s a good idea to disable controller vibrations if you do this, as one player recently discovered when it caused an unexpected issue.
One player shared a funny story: they stepped away from the game, and the controller’s vibrations accidentally caused them to buy 726 bottles of water using all their in-game money.
The player explained in a post that they were temporarily away from the game, trying to get a shiny Chespin in Wild Area 17. An Alpha Diggersby appeared several times and, due to controller vibrations, seemed to have moved their character off the bench they were using.
The player continued, explaining that after their trainer ran into the Holo-wall, Diggersby knocked them unconscious and sent them back to the Pokemon Center near Area 17. Once revived, their character ran south and inexplicably bought over 700 Fresh Waters from a travel brochure vendor, spending all their money in the process.

It’s not a major problem since earning money is easy in the game, but it’s still best to avoid it. If you plan to step away from the game while shiny hunting, remember to disable controller vibrations.
One player shared that they were temporarily away from the game (AFK) while trying to reset their Dratini encounter, and when they returned, they had a huge pile of 999 Orion Berries but had lost all their in-game money. They explained they’d spent a lot of time collecting items the previous night and were deeply upset by the loss, quietly crying about it.
