Today, Sony Interactive Entertainment and developers at Naughty Dog have rolled out a complimentary upgrade for “The Last of Us Part II Remastered,” allowing gamers to explore the narrative in a sequential order, as stated by both firms.
Here are the details:
Today, we’re offering an exciting update for players to explore “The Last of Us Part II” narrative in a fresh manner – sequentially.
Players who have experienced the game will recognize that its plot is narrated in a non-chronological manner, as Ellie and Abby’s motivations, insights, and emotional journeys are revealed through numerous flashbacks and concurrent storylines set in different time periods. This unconventional narrative structure was deliberately chosen by our studio to effectively convey the themes and key moments of Part II. However, we often pondered about how the story would play out if it were told chronologically. Now, at last, we have an answer to that question.
Via the latest Chronological mode, we think players will delve even further into the storyline of Part II. This feature allows players to witness events in a sequence that highlights the seamless progression from Ellie receiving the guitar to her learning to play it. Additionally, the exploration of Seattle will reveal intriguing similarities between Ellie and Abby’s intersecting paths. You’ll observe how close they almost cross, the effects their actions have on each other, and much more.
It took considerable effort to align the chronology of The Last of Us Part II’s narrative since its story is intricately crafted. We’re thankful to Naughty Dog and our collaborators at Nixxes for ensuring that the Chronological mode runs seamlessly. Though we encourage new players to experience the game as initially designed, the team’s dedication has resulted in an exciting alternative way to immerse yourself in this storyline.
Furthermore, we aimed to incentivize players for adopting this fresh, revolutionary method in our tale. Besides earning novel trophies upon finishing the storyline sequentially, accomplishing this feat will also grant access to two unexpectedly recognizable character outfits.
Indeed, you’re correct! It’s a blast to play with Joel portraying Nathan Drake and Tommy taking on the role of Sam Drake in ‘No Return’. In light of Naughty Dog turning 40 this year, we’re thrilled to shine a spotlight on our cherished studio. By finishing the storyline in Chronological mode, you’ll gain access to these costumes, which can be used in ‘No Return’ and the exciting roguelike survival mode of Part II Remastered.
Today, an update for “The Last of Us Part II Remastered” is now live on both PlayStation 5 (using Update 2.1.0) and PC platforms such as Steam and Epic Games Store (Update 1.5). This latest release includes the Chronological mode, along with numerous bug fixes and performance enhancements for a smoother gaming experience.
At Naughty Dog, we’ve been incredibly touched by the outpouring of love and support from fans of The Last of Us over the past few months. Whether it was the release of The Last of Us Part II Remastered on PC, the debut of The Last of Us Complete on PlayStation 5, or watching your weekly responses to season 2 of the TV show, it’s been a joy to share this special moment with you all.
Right now, you can get your hands on the remastered version of “The Last of Us Part II” for PlayStation 5 and also on PC platforms such as Steam and the Epic Games Store.
