For the past year, EA Sports FC has hinted at creating a new open-world feature for the popular soccer game. While details are still scarce, many believe EA is aiming for something similar to the ‘The City’ mode in the NBA 2K series – a large, explorable world with opportunities for casual gameplay. Although this mode wasn’t ready for the release of EA Sports FC 26, the developers aren’t waiting until FC 27 to share it with players. EA recently announced they’ll be starting playtesting of the new mode very soon.
EA Sports FC recently announced a new technical test for their upcoming game, currently known as FC 26. They describe it as a preview of a more immersive football experience. Starting November 3rd, a limited number of players in the UK, USA, and Canada will be able to participate. EA Sports wants to clarify that the content in this test won’t appear in the final FC 26 game, but it’s the biggest test of its kind they’ve ever conducted.
EA Sports FC 27 Might Add an Open-World Mode

If you want to try out the test, you’ll need to submit your name through EA’s Playtesting portal. Keep in mind that signing up doesn’t guarantee you’ll be selected, and if you are, you’ll need to keep everything confidential. EA requires all participants to agree not to share any details or content from the test, as some of what you see might not end up in the final game.
EA is exploring new options, and it’s good they’re getting feedback from players since this could significantly impact how people play EA FC. While this new open-world mode probably won’t replace popular modes like Ultimate Team or Career Mode, it has the potential to be hugely popular – perhaps as successful as 2K‘s The City. It will likely include in-game purchases, but that’s typical for EA Sports games.
We likely won’t have details about the new game mode until EA officially announces FC 27. While the developers might share a quick update after the playtest feedback is gathered, that’s not very probable. The positive side is that work on the current game, FC 26, isn’t affected. You can still look forward to ongoing updates and improvements based on the recent November FC Feedback Update.
Just a reminder that EA FC comes out every year. This test is being run by a team focused on future games, meaning the developers currently working on FC 26 aren’t directly involved. EA operates this way to meet its annual release schedule, so this isn’t unusual. The main difference this time is how much EA is including the community in the development process for future EA FC games. Hopefully, this shows they’re continuing to listen to player feedback.
