Game designer Hideo Kojima attended Lucca Comics & Games 2025 in Italy this weekend. The event is a European version of Comic Con.
Since he was in the area, he made a quick visit to Guerrilla Games’ office in Amsterdam. He took some photos with key Sony executives like Hermen Hulst and studio director Jan-Bart van Beek while he was there.
We don’t know if Kojima’s visit was just a friendly one or related to work, but it’s likely they discussed Decima, especially now that he’s actively started developing PHYSINT.
The upcoming spy-action game from Sony is in the very early stages of development. The game’s director needs to decide if he’ll keep using the technology developed by Guerrilla, or switch to something else.
His upcoming horror game OD, for example, will use Unreal Engine 5.
Okay, so Kojima really knocked it out of the park with the Decima engine in Death Stranding 2: On the Beach. Since his studio is still working closely with PlayStation, I’m guessing he might take things even further and use something called PHYSINT in his next game. It seems like he’s always pushing the boundaries of what’s possible, and I’m excited to see what he comes up with!
Guerrilla Games is also dedicating significant resources to the Decima engine. A third Horizon game is probably already in the works, and there’s been talk for a while about a separate multiplayer game set in the Horizon universe.
