At Black Sabbath’s last-ever live performance, Ozzy Osbourne disclosed that he had the opportunity to encounter another iconic rock artist.
On July 5th, the 76-year-old celebrity gave his final performance before retiring, and legendary band Black Sabbath said goodbye for good at their original hometown of Birmingham, marking the end of an era.
At Villa Park, a grand rock festival was thrown as a farewell tribute to heavy metal legends, with over forty thousand fans witnessing an unforgettable performance by numerous musicians.
The concert concluded with a performance by Black Sabbath, featuring original members Ozzy Osbourne, Tony Iommi, Geezer Butler, and Bill Ward, who hadn’t played together since 2005. This was their last show together after nearly six decades as a band.
After the event, Ozzy mentioned that he hadn’t met the performing artist before – none other than Axl Rose, lead vocalist of Guns N’ Roses.
Sharing a photo of our handshake on Instagram, Ozzy captioned it: “Met Axl Rose for the first time – at my age, not often you cross paths with such legends. Truly an impeccable gentleman.
In a different photo, Axl Rose, lead vocalist of Guns N’ Roses, was seen standing with their guitarist, Slash, and Ozzy Osbourne. While the other two were standing, Ozzy was pictured kneeling near his throne.
At the start of the year, Black Sabbath declared they would be ending their career with a last performance, considering Ozzy Osbourne’s continuing struggle with Parkinson’s disease.
Over the past few years, Osbourne’s performances have fallen short of expectations, and several tours he had scheduled were called off even before they began.
Osbourne stated that the show would take him back to his hometown to bid farewell to his performance career. He sat on a fittingly bat-adorned throne while singing, adding to the scene.
Starring actor Jason Momoa as host and helmed by musician Tom Morello of Rage Against The Machine, Back to the Beginning turned out to be an epic heavy metal extravaganza that put all other metal events to shame.
Performances by Act featured sets of up to four songs, often with band combinations comprising various musicians playing cover versions of Ozzy Osboure and Black Sabbath tunes.
Musicians such as Metallica, Slayer, Pantera, Alice in Chains, Steven Tyler from Aerosmith, Anthrax, Tool, Gojira, Jack Black, Yungblud, Ronnie Wood, and Billy Corgan performed brief sets.

Later, Axl shared his heartfelt tribute to Osbourne, expressing in a social media post on X: “Wow! What an incredible night! Overwhelming emotions! Fantastic audience! Everyone was deeply moved.
“MET OZZY!! (Crazy we’d never met b4!!) He was really great!! Was great to meet Sabbath!!”
As a movie reviewer, I must say, it wasn’t easy for me or anyone else to witness [Ozzy’s] battles, yet we couldn’t help but cheer him on every step of the way. His courage in facing these challenges was nothing short of admirable, and guess what? He pulled it off spectacularly!!!
It was wonderful catching up with Ozzy’s family, friends from various bands, and industry folks. Once again, a heartfelt thank you goes out to Ozzy, Sharon, Black Sabbath, and all the fans for inviting us.
The funds collected during the event will be evenly distributed among three charitable organizations: Cure Parkinson’s, Birmingham Children’s Hospital, and Acorn Children’s Hospice, which is a charity supported by Aston Villa that focuses on children’s care.
