Fans still love Marvel: Ultimate Alliance, and for good reason. Even though it’s been six years since the last game, this action RPG series delivered three memorable adventures within the vast Marvel Universe. Offering a huge roster of playable characters and epic storylines that spanned the entire franchise, Marvel: Ultimate Alliance is a fantastic way to experience everything Marvel has to offer.
Although there’s no official announcement of a fourth game, fans are still hoping Marvel will create a new Marvel: Ultimate Alliance title similar to the original Gauntletstyle team-up format. There are many possibilities for how to do this and keep the series going strong. Here are five ideas for a potential Marvel: Ultimate Alliance 4*, focusing on new settings, ways to play with others, and a fresh storyline.
Make A Multiversal Marvel Alliance

With the success of the Marvel Cinematic Universe and films like Spider-Verse highlighting the multiverse, a new Marvel: Ultimate Alliance game could really benefit from exploring that concept. Bringing together heroes from different realities would be a fresh way to reimagine familiar characters like Spider-Man and Iron Man, drawing inspiration from comics or creating entirely new stories. Marvel comics have already proven how well this works with teams like the Exiles and Avengers Forever, and it would allow for incredibly diverse and interesting level design. Imagine exploring alternate realities like the future world of Marvel 2099 or the terrifying Marvel Zombies universe – the possibilities are endless!
Explore The Overall Marvel Timeline

Okay, so I’m really hoping the next Marvel: Ultimate Alliance game doesn’t mess with alternate realities – though I love the idea of keeping a huge, epic feel. What I think would be amazing is a story that lets us travel through time within the Marvel Universe! Imagine fighting villains like Kang or Stryfe, which would give them a perfect reason to send us to different points in history. It’d be so cool to see characters like Apocalypse, Thor, and Wolverine in eras we rarely get to explore. And the level design possibilities! Putting Captain America in the Trojan War or recreating that Iron Man/King Arthur comic? Yes, please! It’s also a great way to really dive into the idea of legacy – showing us the past Black Panthers, Iron Fists, and Sorcerers Supreme. That would be incredible.
Adapt More “Hero Vs. Hero” Storylines

Although Marvel: Ultimate Alliance 2 isn’t the strongest game in the series, it introduced an interesting idea: the story changes depending on whether you side with Captain America or Iron Man in their disagreement about superhero registration, mirroring the Civil War storyline. While this concept wasn’t fully realized in Ultimate Alliance 2, it would be perfect for a new game. A future Ultimate Alliance could explore other Marvel conflicts, like Avengers vs. X-Men or the events leading up to Secret Wars, and force players to choose a side when heroes clash. Even better, the game could create a brand new conflict with complex reasons for both sides, making the story even more engaging.
Focus More On The Supernatural

The Marvel: Ultimate Alliance games have explored many parts of the Marvel Universe, often featuring villains from Earth and powerful cosmic threats. While the supernatural side of Marvel has appeared in some levels and boss battles, a new Ultimate Alliance game could really dive into magic and the mystical, building on the popularity of characters like Scarlet Witch and Agatha Harkness from the Marvel Cinematic Universe. This would introduce a lot of fresh villains and offer a nice change of pace from the cosmic focus of the last game. Plus, it could finally explain the mysterious appearance of Mephisto in the original game, creating a stronger connection between all three storylines.
Make Marvel: Ultimate Alliance A Live-Service Title

Games such as Marvel Snap and Marvel Rivals have proven that the vast Marvel Universe provides plenty of content for ongoing online games. A new Marvel Ultimate Alliance game could follow this model, regularly adding fresh missions and characters. These missions could be directly inspired by storylines from Marvel movies, TV shows, and comics, creating exciting connections across different media. This approach would offer Marvel fans a unique online multiplayer experience – a strong emphasis on team play that unites players worldwide, moving beyond the traditionally local multiplayer focus. Marvel: Ultimate Alliance 4 could become a constantly evolving game, securing its place as a key part of Marvel’s gaming future rather than just a one-time release.
