Making a video game based on an existing license is often challenging. Developers can struggle with interference from the license holder or a lack of funding, and the history of licensed games is filled with failures. However, some titles, like Marvel’s Spider-Man and Alien: Isolation, truly succeed. Battlestar Galactica: Deadlock is another example – despite previous Battlestar Galactica games being disappointing, Deadlock delivered a fantastic space strategy experience. A common problem with these games, though, is that the license itself can expire, creating further complications.
Black Lab Games has announced that Battlestar Galactica: Deadlock will no longer be available for purchase starting November 15th. While they haven’t confirmed the reason, it appears to be related to the game’s license. Good news for current owners: you’ll still be able to play the game. If you’ve been wanting to try it, now’s the time, as it will soon be removed from sale. The developers are giving fans advance notice, which is a thoughtful move.
Battlestar Galactica: Deadlock Will Be Delisted Soon
When Battlestar Galactica: Deadlock came out in 2017, it was a hit with both critics and players. The turn-based strategy game from Black Lab Games did well on computers, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One. Following its success, several expansions were released, adding popular ships and new story missions.
Plus, Deadlock delves into a rarely seen period in the show’s history – the First Cylon War. In this strategy game, you lead the Twelve Colonies as they fight against the Cylons. You’ll command warships and work to strengthen the Quorum alliance to maintain your forces.
In addition to its story mode, Deadlock has a good multiplayer option. However, it’s uncertain if the servers will remain active, and the developers haven’t said one way or the other. This could mean players won’t be able to play the 1-on-1 or co-op modes anymore. While the story is the main attraction, losing these extra game types would be a letdown for fans.
As a huge Battlestar Galactica fan, I’m really excited to hear that a new strategy game is in the works! Alt Shift, the developers, are making Battlestar Galactica: Scattered Hope, and from what I’ve read, it sounds amazing. They’re describing it as a game with a strong story, challenging tactical gameplay, tough decisions to make, and some really intense space combat – basically everything I want in a BSG game!
The game focuses on making choices while traveling through space, all while avoiding the Cylons. When they do find you, the game shifts to real-time strategy battles. But the goal isn’t to win these fights—it’s to survive long enough to jump to a new location using your FTL drive. While different from Deadlock, Scattered Hopes aims to deliver a compelling strategy experience for fans of Battlestar. Currently, Scattered Hopes is planned for release in the first three months of 2026.
