X-Men ’97 Season 2 Trailer Unveils Its 3 New Supervillains

The latest trailer for X-Men ’97 Season 2 revealed three new villains joining the popular animated show. The series, which is a continuation of the classic X-Men: The Animated Series from the 1990s, is set to return in 2026 with both familiar faces and exciting new characters.

At New York Comic-Con 2025, X-Men ’97 revealed a brand-new trailer for its second season, which is set to release in 2026. The roughly two-minute preview gave fans a first look at the show’s main villain, Apocalypse, and a storyline involving time travel that will send the X-Men to different points in history.

A big talking point for fans is the teaser revealing three brand new villains who will appear in Season 2.

Season 2 of X-Men ’97 is scheduled to premiere on Disney+ in 2026, continuing the story from its popular first season. The show is a direct sequel to the X-Men animated series from the mid-1990s and will follow the same characters and storylines, picking up right after the events of that original show.

Every New Villain Confirmed in the X-Men ‘97 Season 2 Trailer

Omega Red

As a huge fan of X-Men ’97, I was really excited to see Omega Red pop up at the end of Season 1 – we even got a quick glimpse of him battling some of Bastion’s robots in the finale! But honestly, while he’s definitely a threat, I wouldn’t quite call him the main villain just yet.

A certain character is expected to have a bigger part in Season 2 of X-Men ’97. He made a brief but striking appearance in the show’s trailer at NYCC, dramatically extending his Carbonadium tentacles towards the camera, hinting at a major, action-packed fight.

Originally named Arkady Rossovich, Omega Red was a Soviet soldier subjected to dangerous experiments. These experiments bonded him with a metal called Carbonadium, transforming him into one of Wolverine’s greatest enemies. He relentlessly pursues control over his home country and, ultimately, the entire world.

Sabertooth

Although Omega Red is frequently linked to Wolverine, Sabertooth is considered his ultimate enemy. Like Wolverine (also known as Logan), this mutant with a furry exterior was once part of Team X and possesses comparable abilities.

This X-Men villain played a key role in the original animated series. He was a frequent opponent of the X-Men, often teaming up with Magneto to fight against Charles Xavier and his team.

I’m getting a strong sense of déjà vu with Sabertooth in X-Men ’97 Season 2. It looks like he’s switched allegiances, surprisingly joining forces with the X-Men instead of being one of the bad guys. If you’re curious about his background, you can find more details about him here.

Lady Deathstrike

The New York Comic Con trailer revealed Lady Deathstrike alongside Sabertooth, another villain connected to Wolverine. Interestingly, she appears to be an ally of the X-Men in the upcoming series, working with them to fight against Apocalypse.

It’s probably safe to say this partnership with characters like Lady Deathstrike won’t last forever, since their darker impulses are bound to surface eventually.

Lady Deathstrike’s origin story in the comics centers around her father, the scientist who perfected the process of bonding Adamantium to bone – the same process that gave Wolverine his indestructible skeleton. When Wolverine kills her father, she seeks revenge, undergoing the same Adamantium procedure to become a powerful and dangerous mutant villain.
