As a longtime Star Wars fan, I’m really excited to see the franchise potentially turning a corner. After a lot of releases that fans have been divided on, The Mandalorian has been a clear win. But it’s not just that it’s good – it’s opened the door for another spin-off that almost everyone seems to be asking for! Honestly, seeing that much fan agreement these days is pretty rare, and I think Disney and Lucasfilm should definitely capitalize on this momentum before it fades.
Star Wars: Visions is an animated series available on Disney+ since 2021, with the latest season (Season 3) released recently. Each season features a collection of short animated films created by talented studios, both well-known and emerging. The first season showcased different styles of Japanese anime, while Season 2 broadened its scope with contributions from studios around the world – including Latin America, Europe, and Asia. Season 3 returns to its roots, focusing again on Japanese anime, and begins with a continuation of the most popular short from Season 1.
Star Wars’ Ronin Needs His Own Spinoff Project ASAP

As a huge Star Wars fan, I’ve been so excited to see The Ronin really take off! He started as part of the Visions anthology, but he’s quickly become a standout character. With two amazing segments in Visions, plus a comic that explores his past and a novel diving even deeper, The Ronin has a great backstory already, but still feels like there’s so much more story to tell. He really feels like a character who could lead his own corner of the Star Wars universe, and I’m here for it!
The story of the Ronin exists outside of established Star Wars lore, unfolding in a universe inspired by Feudal Japan. This provides a fresh starting point for a filmmaker or studio to create a full-length movie centered around the Ronin (also known as “Grim”). Crucially, this setting isn’t bound by existing Star Wars rules, offering a chance to deliver something genuinely original to fans.
As a huge movie fan, I’m really excited about where they could take this film. I’m picturing two main directions: a stunning live-action epic with the feel of something like Shogun, but with lightsabers, of course! Or, they could be really ambitious and keep the incredible anime style from those Visions shorts – that animation was just phenomenal. Honestly, with anime becoming so popular here in the States, it feels like a smart move for Star Wars. It could really shake things up and bring a fresh energy to the franchise. Plus, a project like this would probably be a hit all over the world!
Watch the Ronin shorts, “The Duel” and “The Duel: Payback,” on Disney+ as part of Star Wars: Visions, Seasons 1 and 3, respectively.
