No Man’s Sky: Expedition 2 Redux Beachhead Guide

In celebration of N7 Day, No Man’s Sky is getting a rerun of Expedition 2 Redux: Beachhead.

This Expedition includes a special crossover with the Mass Effect universe, letting you earn items inspired by the Normandy spaceship! But hurry, the Expedition is only available for a limited time.

In this guide, we’ll help you complete the Expedition as quickly and easily as possible.

Expedition 2 Redux: Beachhead Guide | No Man’s Sky

Starting Up

Just a heads-up: this Expedition won’t be around forever! It’s only available between November 7th and November 18th, 2025.

There are two ways to begin. You can either start a new game in Expedition mode, or visit the Space Anomaly in a game you’ve already started and begin the journey from there.

We strongly suggest starting with a previously saved game! This lets you bring existing resources into the Expedition, helping you advance much faster. If you can, here’s a list of items we recommend having with you:

  • Amino Chamber x1
  • Antimatter x1
  • Faecium x25
  • Fishing Rig
  • Frigate Fuel (50 Tonnes) x3
  • Ionized Cobalt x50
  • Sodium x20
  • Spicy Chum x30
  • Warp Cells x3

Depositing these items into the Space Anomaly’s terminal ensures you can retrieve them later during the Expedition. They’ll become accessible once the Space Anomaly opens after the Expedition begins.

If you’re running low on these resources, or if you’ve just started a new game, you can purchase them. We’ll guide you through the process of obtaining them when you need them.

Also, don’t forget to track your Milestones as you move forward. Be sure to claim them all, because they unlock things you’ll need to continue progressing.

It’s best not to install modules you don’t immediately need. You can save them and sell them for Nanites later, which will help you advance more quickly.

With that out of the way, let’s get into the Expedition proper!

Repairing the Freighter

Once the Expedition begins, speak with the Commander on the freighter. Then, move all the resources from the freighter’s storage to your ship’s storage.

After that, you’ll need to fix the freighter’s air system. Luckily, you already have everything you need from the cargo you collected – just swap out the wiring with the repair kit.

Completing this step finishes the “All Hands on Deck” milestone. Once you claim it, you’ll receive more Repair Kits. Use those kits, along with some Chromatic Metal, to fix the remaining systems on the freighter.

Once you’ve finished working on the freighter, return to your starship and launch. Then, you’ll need to destroy 50 asteroids to achieve the “Stardust” milestone.

Exploring a Scorched and Sub-Zero Planet

Now, head to Kuru Tau. It’s a Scorched Planet in the same star system as you are now. Simply fly there and land to finish the “Away Team” milestone.

Your mission on this planet is to locate and study three unique creature types. Completing this task will unlock the “First Contact” milestone – another step forward!

Hey, don’t forget to scan and identify plant life as you explore! I need to find 13 different plant species total to complete that part of the game, but thankfully I don’t have to find them all on just one planet. That makes things a lot easier!

Regardless, discovering 13 plant species completes the “The Engine of Life” milestone.

While you’re exploring Kuru Tau, be sure to open Photo Mode and take a picture of the planet’s surface. You’ll need this photo to complete the “Grand Tour” milestone later in the game.

After finishing up at Kuru Tau, head to Relland Deran. It’s a very cold planet in the same star system. Be sure to snap a picture of the surface to complete the “Grand Tour” objective.

Nameless History

Next up, you want to select and track the “Nameless History” milestone from the Expedition menu.

After you start following that goal, put down a Signal Booster and use it to search for ancient structures. You can place the Signal Booster wherever is convenient – for example, if you’re still on Relland Deran, you can put it right there on the surface.

The Signal Booster will guide you to some ancient ruins with a floating structure. Once you find it, interact with it and choose the “Seek knowledge of the past” option. This will finish the milestone and give you a Historical Document as a reward.

Digging Treasure and Moving Around

For your next milestone, select the “No Man’s Treasure” milestone and track it.

Now that you’re following this progress, you can use the Target Sweep feature (check the bottom right of your screen for the keybind) to discover hidden items. Find three of these items to finish this step.

You’ve probably walked around 2500 units by now. If that’s the case, you’ll have earned the “Pilgrim” milestone.

It’s also a good idea to complete “The Aviator” achievement now. All you need to do is travel 100,000 units with your Starship. Doing so will give you 10 Navigation Data as a reward.

Space Station Stop

Next up, you want to land at any Space Station. You have a couple of things to do over there!

Okay, so the first step to becoming a ‘Linguaphile’ is to chat with at least six people who actually from around here and ask them to help me with the local dialect. I need to pick up six specific words to finish that milestone, which sounds like a fun challenge!

Next, visit the local Cartographer and see what they have for sale. You’ll need to purchase 2 Emergency Cartographic Data items and 3 Alien Cartographic Data items.

Next, go to the Trade Terminal and sell the Nip-Nip Buds and Historical Document you found in the ruins. Then, buy 40 units of Salt.

Distress Signals and Rendezvous

Next, choose and begin tracking the “Interstellar Rescue” milestone. As you track it, use the Emergency Cartographic Data to find a distress signal. Follow the signal and assist the pilot you find in repairing their starship to finish the milestone.

Also, choose and monitor the “Fallen Giants” milestone. Then, use another Emergency Cartographic Data scan to find a distress signal pointing to a wrecked freighter. Access the freighter’s computer to finish the milestone.

Don’t forget to collect your reward after reaching the milestone – it’s a Salvaged Hyperdrive Upgrade! Once you have it, go back to your freighter and install the upgrade into the Supercharged Slot.

Next, keep an eye on the “Rendezvous 1” milestone. Use the Freighter Warp Map inside your freighter to navigate to the system indicated on the map. This will finish the “Engage Warp” milestone, so be sure to claim it as soon as you arrive.

You can now summon the Space Anomaly again after progressing this far in the Expedition! If you stored items there earlier, now’s the time to take them back out – you’ll need them shortly.

To wrap things up, head to any Space Station and find the Technology Merchant. Sell all the modules you’ve collected so far to earn at least 4500 Nanites, which will unlock the “Quantum Foam” milestone.

Spend the rewards you earned from reaching the “Quantum Foam” milestone to construct a Fleet Command Room on your freighter.

Time to Go Shopping, Mining, and Crafting

This section is optional. If you already have all the materials listed at the beginning, feel free to move on. Otherwise, you’ll need to gather a few things.

Visit a Space Station and make sure to buy all of the following:

  • From the Station’s Trade Terminal
    • Di-Hydrogen Jellies x7
    • Carbon Nanotubes x3
    • Metal Plating x1
    • Cobalt x100
    • Ferrite Dust – Buy all that’s available.
  • From Traders Visiting the Station
    • Chromatic Metal – All that’s available.
    • Phosphorous x25

Don’t forget, besides shopping, you’ll also need to travel to different planets to gather these resources:

  • Condensed Carbon x25 – From Crystals.
  • Sodium x20 – From Plants.
  • Mordite x155 – From Creatures.

Next, you’ll need to convert 75 Mordite into 25 Faecium. In addition, gather the resources to create 3 Warp Cells and 3 Antimatter.

Still not done yet, it’s time for refining! You need the following:

  • Refine 6 Di-Hydrogen Jellies into Di-Hydrogen.
  • Refine Cobalt into 50 Ionised Cobalt.
  • Refine Salt into 20 Chlorine.

Combine your resources to create one Amino Chamber, a Fishing Rig, and thirty Spicy Chum. After that, go back to the Fleet Command Room to unlock the recipe for Frigate Fuel (50 Tonnes) and then build three of them.

Okay, that was a lot to take in, but now you’re up to speed with players who’ve already gotten these items from the Space Anomaly.

Getting Back on Track

Okay, so I’ve been collecting tons of stuff, and I just learned I really need to build a Storage Room on my freighter! Apparently, that’s how I complete the ‘Super Cargo’ milestone, which is awesome. Time to get building!

Okay, so next up is the “Called by the Stars” milestone. Basically, you just need to send your fleet on Expeditions three times. You do that by chatting with the Navigator on your freighter – they’re the one who sets you up with those missions!

Good news! There’s a quick way to finish this milestone. Simply send out your fleet, then immediately recall them using the ‘End Expedition’ option in the Fleet Command Room. Repeat this process three times, and you’ll complete the milestone almost instantly, without waiting for the expedition to finish naturally. This saves a significant amount of time.

Now that’s done, construct an Orbital Exocraft Materialiser on your freighter. This will finish the “Drop Protocol” milestone and unlock some important blueprints for new rooms.

Also, construct a Scanner Room, a Double Cultivation Chamber, and a Teleport Chamber. Doing so will finish the “Farseer”, “The Air We Breathe”, and “Across Infinity” milestones.

Now, go back to tracking the “Rendezvous 1” milestone. Head to the designated planet and find the portal to finish it.

Now’s a good time to use the Signal Booster to find buildings around you. If you haven’t already, activate 5 Save Beacons at those buildings to finish the “Signs to Nowhere” milestone.

While you’re visiting the first planet, take some time to go fishing. Use Spicy Chum as bait to catch 5 of the unusual “ice” fish – this will finish the “Icy Veins” milestones.

Okay, so listen, the fish you catch are super random. You absolutely have to be fishing on a Frozen Planet to get the right ones. It’s kinda weird, but I’ve heard from other players that they actually have more luck fishing on completely different planets, even ones that aren’t icy at all! Go figure, right?

Time For a Lot More Rendezvous

Okay, so next I need to keep an eye out for the “Rendezvous 2” milestone. It’s like the last one – once I find it, I just follow it and it’ll warp me to a new system. Then I need to head to the planet that’s highlighted in the game, find the portal there, and complete it. Pretty straightforward!

Okay, so I finally figured out Rendezvous 2! To get the “Grand Tour” milestone done, I needed to head to the Argi Prime Forsaken Planet. Once I landed there, all I had to do was snap a quick pic of the surface, and boom – milestone complete! It was a bit of a hunt, but totally worth it.

Once you’ve finished that, simply complete “Rendezvous 3,” “Rendezvous 4,” and “Rendezvous 5.” These missions are similar to the ones you’ve already done—just keep track of the objectives and follow the on-screen instructions.

Nearing the End of the Expedition

Next, complete the “Historiography Lesson” milestone. To do this, use three Alien Cartographic Data charts to find specific locations, and then travel to those spots.

Once you find the alien ruins, be sure to interact with them and choose the option “Take Dosimeter reading for Nada” at each of the three locations. This will finish the “Historiography Lesson” milestone.

Now, head back to the Space Anomaly and talk to Specialist Polo to get the coordinates for the Black Hole. Then, use your freighter to travel to those coordinates and fly into the Black Hole.

This will lead you beyond the main Expedition zone, letting you use your freighter to travel between star systems. To finish the “Uncharted” milestone, you’ll need to warp to a total of 8 different systems.

Myth Beacom and SSV Normandy SR1

Next, go back to the Space Anomaly and speak with the Quicksilver Synthesis Companion. Buy one Myth Beacon from them – this will finish the “Collective Consciousness” milestone.

Just a reminder: unlocking the Myth Beacon is a team effort! If you can’t buy it right away, it means more players need to advance in the game first.

Once you obtain the Myth Beacon, be sure to monitor the “Echo Through the Ages” milestone. Follow the marker it provides to reach a system and planet displaying the Historiographical Echo Source icon.

Simply follow the marker to a certain building, and then use the Myth Beacon to finish the “Echo Through the Ages” milestone.

You should now see a marker indicating the location of the SSV Normandy SR1. Travel off-planet and approach the ship to receive its message and integrate it into your fleet. Doing so will unlock the “Historical Paragon” milestone.

Claiming Rewards

Okay, so I finished the Expedition, and now it’s time to get my rewards! All I have to do is head over to the Expedition terminal at the Space Anomaly and select the option to end the Expedition. Easy enough!

If you’re continuing a game from an older save, you can choose what items and upgrades to carry over by placing them in the Cargo and Technology slots on the terminal. Anything you don’t select will be sold for resources, and those resources will be added to your current game.

If you began a new game, your progress won’t be affected. Finishing the Expedition simply changes your save file to a standard one, meaning all your items and progress will remain as they are.

Now that’s covered, you can chat with the Quicksilver Synthesis Companion. Just choose “Collect Expedition Rewards” to get everything you’ve earned, and you’ll be finished!

This covers everything you need to finish Expedition 2 Redux: Beachhead in No Man’s Sky. Hopefully, this guide helped you complete it quickly and within the time allowed.
