Dan Trachtenberg’s Predator: Badlands had a very successful opening weekend, earning more at the box office than any previous film in the Predator series. It exceeded pre-release predictions and achieved the biggest opening numbers for the franchise. However, the question remains: how much money does the film ultimately need to earn to be considered a financial success or simply recoup its production costs?
Here’s how much money it will need to make in its theatrical run.
How much did Predator: Badlands open with at the box office?
The film launched in theaters on November 7th, earning a franchise-record $40 million domestically across 3,725 screens. It also grossed $40 million internationally, for a worldwide opening weekend total of $80 million.
Although the movie has received good reviews and it’s only been out for a few days, it hasn’t made much money yet, but could become profitable if more people see it.
How much money does Predator: Badlands need to make?
The movie cost a reported $105 million to make. Although it earned nearly that much during its opening weekend, simply exceeding the budget isn’t enough to make it a financial success.
A new movie typically needs to earn roughly two to 2.5 times its total cost – including making the film, marketing it, and creating related merchandise – to cover its expenses and start making a profit. For “Predator: Badlands,” that means it needs to gross between $210 million and $262 million to break even and become profitable.
Keep in mind that these figures are estimates, not official numbers. Only the film’s production company – 20th Century Studios, a part of The Walt Disney Company – knows the exact amounts.
I’m really fascinated by the story of Dek, this young Predator who had to flee his own clan after being betrayed. He ends up on this wild planet called Genna, determined to prove himself by taking down its deadliest beast, the Kalisk. What’s even cooler is that he meets Thia, a synthetic with a troubled past, and the two of them team up to achieve his goal. It’s a compelling story of redemption and an unlikely alliance!
