A popular game from 2018 received a remastered version in November 2025, breathing new life into a genre that had been largely absent for years. Remasters are becoming increasingly common for major game releases, and that’s a positive trend. Players love revisiting classic games, and updating them with modern technology only enhances the experience. This particular remaster from Paradox Interactive isn’t just a good game in its own right – it helped bring back the city-building survival genre, which was popular in the 90s and continues to thrive today.
Paradox Interactive released a revamped version of its popular game Surviving Mars on November 10, 2025, called Surviving Mars: Relaunched. This isn’t just a graphical update; it’s a complete overhaul and expansion of the original 2018 game, with tons of new and improved content for both longtime fans and new players. The remastered version includes all previously released downloadable content, offering hours of gameplay. Like the original, Surviving Mars: Relaunched is available on multiple gaming platforms.
Surviving Mars Is Back and Better Than Ever, Thanks to a Remaster

If you haven’t played before, Surviving Mars is a game where you build a colony on Mars, using real-world maps and terrain. Your main goal is to help your colonists survive and thrive by exploring the planet and building the necessary infrastructure for a long-lasting settlement. This updated version, Surviving Mars: Relaunched, adds even more strategic options and challenging scenarios, requiring careful planning. It’s from the creators of the popular game Crusader Kings 3.

Surviving Mars: Relaunched is OUT NOW!
Good Luck Commanders!— Surviving Mars (@Surviving_PDX) November 10, 2025
I remember when Surviving Mars came out in 2018 – it was a huge deal! It really brought city-building games back to life, something we hadn’t seen much of since titles like Cities: Skylines II in 2023. For a long time, there just weren’t many options, and even fewer that combined city-building with the challenge of survival. Surviving Mars felt totally unique. Now, it looks like Crytivo’s Drownlight is taking inspiration from Surviving Mars: Relaunched, which is awesome, but we’re gonna have to be patient because it’s still a ways off.
This remastered version of Surviving Mars looks fantastic, and it’s obvious the developers put a lot of effort into updating it for modern systems. Currently, the game has a “Mixed” rating on Steam based on only 15 reviews. Some of the negative feedback points to bugs that existed during development or were found right after release, but these are likely to be fixed with future updates. Don’t let a small number of negative reviews discourage you from trying what looks to be a polished and improved version of a great game.
