The new Scary Movie promises to be a welcome return to form for fans of the original films. Marlon and Shawn Wayans, who starred in the first two movies, are back as actors and writers, and Keenan Ivory Wayans, the director of those films, is helping with the script. Anna Faris and Regina Hall are also reprising their roles as Cindy Campbell and Brenda Meeks – as Scary Movie V proved, it just isn’t the same without them! What’s more, most of the original cast from the very first film are returning after 26 years, bringing back many familiar faces.
Interestingly, it looks like we might see some familiar faces from Scary Movie 2 in the new film. Specifically, Chris Elliott is confirmed to reprise his role as Hanson, the one-handed caretaker of Hell House.
Just Keep Any and All Turkeys Away From Him
The last time we saw Hanson—a character inspired by Hannibal Lecter—Cindy had defeated his ghostly form at Hell House. She and her friends Brenda, Ray, Shorty, Dwight, Theo, and Buddy all managed to escape. Later, back at college, Cindy and Buddy began dating, but Hanson unexpectedly reappeared and was accidentally hit by Shorty’s car.
As a big fan of the Scary Movie franchise, I always find it funny how characters just… keep coming back to life! It reminded me that Hanson somehow survived being seemingly killed off. But honestly, it’s not unusual in these movies. Remember Brenda? She died in the first Scary Movie and then just showed up again in the sequel with no explanation! It happened again in Scary Movie 3 and 4 too – she’d die, and then suddenly be back for the next film. It’s part of what makes those movies so silly and enjoyable!
Jon Abrahams and Lochlyn Munro, known for their roles in the original Scary Movie and Peacemaker, will return as Greg Phillipe and Bobby Prinze, respectively, in the new Scary Movie. Dave Sheridan and Cheri Oteri are also back, reprising their iconic characters Doofy Gilmore and Gail Hailstorm.
Currently, Shannon Elizabeth is the only original cast member who hasn’t signed on to return. However, anything is possible! She did reprise her role as Nadia in American Reunion after an eleven-year break since American Pie 2, so we haven’t ruled her out.
In addition to the previously announced cast, Damon Wayans Jr., Kim Wayans, and Saturday Night Live‘s Heidi Gardner are joining the movie – all newcomers to the series. Fans are hoping to see even more familiar faces return, perhaps Elizabeth, and the cast from Scary Movie 2 – like Masterson, Robertson, and Cross, as well as Andy Richter. Whether that will happen remains to be seen.
