Science fiction games have always been a place to explore incredible ideas – strange new worlds, thought-provoking stories about humanity, and technologies that seem impossible. As games become more advanced, the sci-fi genre keeps getting more ambitious, offering players not just cool futuristic settings, but also moving and emotional adventures across the universe. Classic games like Mass Effect, Deus Ex, Halo, and Starfield have defined the genre for each generation, and now a fresh group of developers is stepping up to create the next generation of sci-fi gaming experiences.
As a huge sci-fi fan, I’m seriously excited about some of the games coming out soon – they really could be something special. It’s not just about flashy graphics, either. These games seem like they want to make you think, get you lost in amazing worlds, and recapture that feeling you had as a kid, staring up at the night sky and imagining what’s beyond. I think three games, in particular, have the potential to be the next big thing in sci-fi gaming.
3) Metroid Prime 4: Beyond

The release of Metroid Prime 4: Beyond will be a huge event for Nintendo fans, bringing back a much-loved series. It’s also likely to be one of the last major games for the original Nintendo Switch. After more than ten years, players are eagerly anticipating Samus Aran’s next adventure. Developed by the team behind the original Metroid Prime games, Beyond promises a visually stunning and immersive experience, combining a lonely atmosphere, detailed worlds, and innovative gameplay that could change how we think about sci-fi exploration games.
The Metroid series is known for drawing players into its worlds. From exploring the creepy tunnels of Tallon IV to finding lost Chozo structures, each game makes you feel like you’re truly discovering something new. If Metroid Prime 4: Beyond is successful, it will be because it captures that same feeling of isolation. The idea of being a tiny figure in a vast, uncaring universe is a mood very few games have pulled off as well as the original Metroid Prime games.
It’s amazing how much technology and game design have improved since Metroid Prime 3: Corruption. The new Metroid Prime 4 looks stunning, and we’ve already seen previews of cool additions like a bike. With a release date of December 4th, this game could be one of the best sci-fi titles of the generation, and potentially one of Nintendo’s greatest games on the Nintendo Switch 2.
2) The Expanse: Osiris Reborn

Adapting a popular sci-fi world into a game rarely feels complete, but The Expanse: Osiris Reborn might be the exception. Continuing the story started in the Telltale series, this new game promises a sprawling RPG experience, capturing the complex politics and realistic setting that fans of the TV show and books love.
Following the story of the TV show, Osiris Reborn is set in a universe where Earth, Mars, and the Belt are constantly vying for power, and your choices really matter. What made The Expanse so popular wasn’t just its futuristic world, but how realistic it felt – space is portrayed as a harsh, isolating environment where difficult decisions have to be made. This game aims to capture that same feeling by combining a strong story with careful resource management and consequences that stem directly from what you do.
In Osiris Reborn, players will be able to freely explore planets, moons, and space colonies. The game combines realistic simulation with a complex political story, potentially making it one of the most in-depth sci-fi RPGs ever created. Like Baldur’s Gate 3 revolutionized fantasy RPGs, The Expanse: Osiris Reborn aims to set a new standard for hard science fiction, and is currently scheduled for release in 2026.
1) Exodus

Developed by Archetype Entertainment – a team of experienced creators from the Mass Effect series – Exodus looks set to be the next big sci-fi role-playing game. The developers are known for crafting compelling stories that blend emotional depth, exciting exploration, and meaningful player choices. Exodus is set in a distant future where humanity is scattered across the galaxy and fighting for survival, creating a perfect backdrop for difficult moral decisions, fascinating discoveries, and the thought-provoking themes that define the best science fiction.
From the start, Exodus stands out thanks to its talented creators – James Ohlen and Drew Karpyshyn, both known for their work on beloved games like Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic and Mass Effect. Players are already getting a taste of the game’s universe through a novel, tabletop RPG, and animated short featured on Amazon’s Secret Level. Exodus aims to deliver a grand, cinematic story within a vast, open world. The game will reportedly feature a complex storyline where player choices impact the fate of humanity, and time manipulation is a key element of the plot.
What really stands out about Exodus is its ambitious scope. Initial previews and reports show a richly detailed and immersive world, featuring everything from lively space stations to desolate alien landscapes. The game appears to balance compelling character relationships, intricate political storylines, and thought-provoking themes. It’s no surprise that fans of games like Mass Effect and Starfield are excited about Exodus. The genre is ripe for a game that combines stunning visuals with a strong, well-written narrative. While there’s no confirmed release date yet, it’s currently expected to launch in late 2026.
