A role-playing game first released on the PSP in 2006 is getting a complete remake for today’s gaming systems next year. Many classic games, both well-remembered and obscure, are difficult to play because they’re only available on older consoles. While emulation can help preserve these games, it’s not something most people are familiar with. This leaves countless titles stuck on their original hardware. Fortunately, many developers are now working to update and re-release their older games on new platforms, which is usually a positive step, even if some remakes don’t quite live up to the originals.
Many gamers have a wish list of older games they’d love to see updated, but it’s hard to say which ones will actually happen. Fortunately, newer games often don’t need remasters thanks to strong backward compatibility on Xbox and PlayStation. This means you can easily play games from previous generations without any extra effort. While remasters can improve performance, they aren’t always necessary just to enjoy the game.
Trails in the Sky 2nd Chapter Remake Is Coming in 2026
Good news for RPG fans! The popular PSP game Trails in the Sky 2nd Chapter is getting a full remake, planned for release in 2026. Nihon Falcom announced the remake during a recent investor update, aiming for a launch before the end of September 2026, potentially in the spring or summer. While specific platforms haven’t been revealed, the first Trails in the Sky remake was available on Switch, PS5, and PC, so those are likely candidates. Xbox fans might not want to get their hopes up, though, as the series hasn’t traditionally been released on that platform.
For nearly ten years, Trails in the Sky 2nd Chapter was only available in Japan because it was difficult to translate and adapt for other regions. It finally came to PC in 2015, allowing players in the United States and elsewhere to experience it. A version for the PSP was also released in North America around the same time, though the handheld wasn’t very popular by then. Now that those translation challenges have been resolved, this new remake is almost certain to be released globally next year.
This updated version of Trails in the Sky will feature the same beloved story, but with completely revamped gameplay to feel more modern. Details are still limited, but it’s shaping up to be a fantastic game for fans of Japanese role-playing games.
