The Star Wars prequels sometimes felt predictable because the overall story outcome was already known. However, one reveal genuinely surprised audiences: C-3PO was originally built by Anakin Skywalker. This meant the “Maker” that C-3PO mentioned in the first Star Wars film was actually Luke Skywalker’s father. George Lucas liked the idea of connecting C-3PO’s history to the Skywalker family, making both Threepio and R2-D2 important links throughout the entire saga.
This scene already had a curious, almost religious undertone, with C-3PO talking about “the Maker” while standing near his son—a possible early seed for the idea of “the Chosen One” that George Lucas would later explore. Now, nearly 50 years later, Star Wars has complicated things further by giving Darth Vader a new title, adding another unexpected layer of meaning to this moment.
Darth Vader is Now Officially “the Great Unmaker”

Adam Christopher’s latest Star Wars novel, “Master of Evil,” picks up right after the events of Revenge of the Sith. The story centers on Darth Vader as he hunts down a strong connection to the dark side of the Force and has intense visions. In one particularly striking vision, Vader battles his former self, Anakin Skywalker, with both sides proving to be equally powerful. The novel also gives Darth Vader a new title that feels surprisingly appropriate.
The dark side reveals a deeper truth. It flows through you, Lord Vader – it’s what you’re meant to be. Darth Vader, a powerful force of darkness. Darth Vader, capable of ultimate destruction.
C-3PO remembers Anakin Skywalker as “the Maker,” though his memory isn’t complete. Darth Vader, on the other hand, is known as “the Unmaker,” essentially a destroyer. He brings things to an end, as seen when he ordered the execution of the Jedi (Order 66) and led the Inquisitors. Interestingly, Vader doesn’t realize it yet, but he’s ultimately destined to destroy the Sith themselves by killing Emperor Palpatine in Return of the Jedi.
Darth Vader Really is the Yin to Anakin Skywalker’s Yang

The title “Master of Evil” cleverly highlights the duality within Anakin Skywalker and Darth Vader. It suggests that Anakin represents creation and goodness, while Darth Vader embodies destruction and darkness. This pairing demonstrates a balance of the Force, presenting a contrast to George Lucas’ initial vision for the character.
The novel “Master of Evil” doesn’t stray from the established Star Wars themes. Instead, it expands on ideas George Lucas first suggested in Star Wars: The Clone Wars – that both the light and dark sides of the Force are crucial for balance, and the “Chosen One” must encompass both. Season 1 of Ahsoka foreshadowed this as well, showing that even after death, Anakin Skywalker’s Force ghost still contains darkness. Author Adam Christopher is cleverly building upon this concept once again.
“Master of Evil” is on sale now, and can be bought on Amazon.
