Netflix is adding a lot of new content, including original series like KPop Demon Hunters and fresh seasons of popular shows. Viewers can look forward to the fourth season of The Witcher, Nobody Wants This, and the final season of Stranger Things, and that’s just a small taste of what’s coming.
I’ve been hearing about a ton of exciting new movies coming up, but if you’re like me and a big fan of fantasy or sci-fi, you might have overlooked some gems. Seriously, if you haven’t seen these 5 fantasy films yet, stop what you’re doing and check them out – you won’t regret it!
5) Damsel

Millie Bobby Brown is a major star for Netflix, known for her roles in popular series like Stranger Things and the Enola Holmes movies. Her latest Netflix film, Damsel, released in 2024, delivers a thrilling fantasy adventure packed with ancient creatures, royal intrigue, and a dangerous dragon – everything you’d want in a classic fantasy story.
The movie Damsel follows Princess Elodie, who expects a fairytale life but discovers she’s actually meant to be a sacrifice to a mythical beast – a sacrifice that keeps a powerful family in power. The film is full of intense, close calls as Elodie navigates the creature’s dangerous lair, and Brown delivers a captivating performance throughout. I really enjoyed Damsel, and I think you might too if you watch it.
4) Kubo and the Two Strings

Despite being released way back in 2016, Kubo and the Two Strings remains incredibly captivating. This animated adventure is a standout, boasting truly stunning animation and remarkably creative action scenes. It hasn’t lost any of its impact over time.
At its heart, Kubo and the Two Strings is a touching story about a young boy named Kubo and his friends, Monkey and Beetle, who embark on a quest to uncover the truth about his father and rescue his family. Along the way, they face many challenges, ultimately confronting the evil Moon King. This film is visually stunning and genuinely moving – it’s well worth watching.
3) Troll

Let’s explore the fantasy film Troll, released in 2022. Directed by Roar Uthaug, it’s rooted in Norwegian folklore and quickly gained attention for its exciting blend of adventure, exploration, and the spectacle of a giant troll wreaking havoc on a city.
The movie cleverly builds suspense by initially keeping the Troll hidden, making its eventual reveal truly striking. This leads directly into a series of exciting action scenes and chases that maintain a fast pace throughout. It’s a great introduction to the world and will definitely get you excited for Troll 2, coming this December.
2) The Wild Robot

Last year’s animated film, The Wild Robot, was a real gem that didn’t get enough attention. Though it’s more science fiction than pure fantasy, it’s a charming and imaginative story that deserves to be discussed more often.
In The Wild Robot, a robot named Roz washes ashore on a deserted island. Though survival is tough, Roz’s life improves when they form friendships with the island’s animals. This leads to a touching story about self-discovery, love, family, and you might even find yourself getting emotional along the way.
1) The Witcher: Nightmare of the Wolf

Even though the live-action Witcher series recently released its fourth season, the highest-rated Witcher project on Netflix is actually an earlier film. That film is The Witcher: Nightmare of the Wolf, an animated prequel that tells the story of Vesemir, Geralt’s mentor, and it’s fantastic.
The film continues to receive perfect scores from critics on Rotten Tomatoes, and it’s easy to see why. It features incredible animation, exciting action, and a unique look into the backstory of Vesemir, a character rich with untold stories. Fans will also finally witness the fall of Kaer Morhen, a pivotal event that’s been talked about for years. Honestly, it’s a shame we haven’t gotten more adventures like this one centered around Vesemir.
