Microsoft has announced that Windows 11’s Taskbar calendar will soon be updated to display your upcoming appointments and meetings. This feature was available in Windows 10 but was removed when Windows 11 first launched. Microsoft plans to release a preview of the updated calendar next month.
Previously, the calendar pop-up in Windows 11 only let you look at dates. You could browse months and days, but couldn’t add or see your appointments directly from it. Now, Microsoft is introducing a new “agenda view” that changes all of that.
The new Agenda view is now available directly in Notification Center, giving you an easy-to-read, chronological list of upcoming events. It combines your calendar and events into one place, and lets you interact with them directly – like joining meetings or using Microsoft 365 Copilot.
This small update will significantly improve the calendar pop-up. It’s surprising it didn’t have this feature already, considering Windows 10, macOS, and Chrome OS all offer similar functionality. It shows Windows 11 is still catching up, but it’s a welcome addition nonetheless.
Microsoft revealed several new features designed to boost productivity. These include AI that can write text within any application on Windows, and a tool for Outlook that automatically summarizes your emails. Windows 11 is also getting a new feature that allows AI ‘agents’ to work independently on your computer, alongside what you’re already doing.
Next year, new Windows 11 PCs will come with an updated version of BitLocker, the data encryption software. This new version uses the computer’s hardware to encrypt data more quickly and with improved security.
Microsoft is continuing to develop Windows 11 with a focus on AI, aiming for a more intelligent and helpful operating system. However, they’ve also committed to improving other areas like productivity and features for advanced users. Small additions, such as the new agenda view in the Calendar app, demonstrate that Microsoft is paying attention to user feedback and making practical improvements.
