Adult Swim Confirms Primal Season 3 Release Date (And It’s Coming Very Soon)

Fans are eagerly awaiting the return of Genndy Tartakovsky’s Primal, and Adult Swim has now announced the official release date for Season 3. Many were surprised the show is continuing, as Season 2 seemed to wrap up Spear’s story with his apparent death. However, it turns out death isn’t necessarily the end for this character in this world. The series initially followed Spear, a grieving father navigating a brutal and perilous landscape.

Season 3 of Primal will continue the story of Spear, and creator Genndy Tartakovsky promises a thrilling and unique experience for both the character and the audience. Fans won’t have to wait long to see it – the new season premieres on Adult Swim on Sunday, January 11th at 11:30 PM ET/PT. You can find a sneak peek at the season’s artwork below.

What to Know for Primal Season 3

The third season of Genndy Tartakovsky’s Primal will debut on Adult Swim on Sunday, January 11th at 11:30 PM Eastern and Pacific time. New episodes will then be available to stream on HBO Max the following day. Many fans were surprised to learn the story of Spear would continue, and even more so by the reveal of a zombie version of the character. According to Tartakovsky, this unexpected twist was intentional – he told ComicBook earlier this year that he wanted to avoid predictable storytelling.

The idea for the new story came to me while revisiting the ‘Plague of Madness’ episode from Primal‘s first season,” Tartakovsky said. “It featured wild, diseased, zombie-like dinosaurs, and I realized that kind of over-the-top element fit the show’s style. I quickly outlined eight episodes – it all came together in about ten minutes! That’s when I knew the idea had potential – it felt creatively exciting. There’s clearly a lot more story to tell with this undead version of Spear within the harsh world of Primal.”

How Primal Season 3 Shakes Things Up

I’m so excited about what Genndy Tartakovsky has hinted at for Primal Season 3! He’s described it as a different kind of story, but not a reboot – it’s still the same world and timeline we love. He’s being super mysterious about why things are happening the way they are, playfully mentioning ideas like ‘zombie cavemen’ that they aren’t doing. Instead, we’re continuing Spear’s journey, and the first episode will reveal what’s going on. What’s really cool is that it’s not just some random monster – it’s a deeply personal story for this specific character, and that emotional connection is going to be huge!

The creator of Primal says the new season will be full of surprises and a thrilling experience. With the premiere set for January, now’s a great time to revisit the first two seasons, which are available to stream on HBO Max.
