The biggest game for the Nintendo Switch 2 takes up a huge amount of space – almost half of the system’s 256 GB of internal storage. This is a big upgrade from the original Switch, which had only 32 GB. Even after the operating system and other software are installed, the Switch 2 still has around 249 GB free. However, one particular game is so large it nearly fills half of that available space, despite the increased storage.
On November 20, 2025, a post on X (formerly Twitter) from @finalfantasyvii revealed that Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade from Square Enix requires between 90 and 99 GB of storage space, depending on the version. Considering the Switch 2’s total storage, this takes up a substantial 40% even with no other games installed. This is noteworthy because other major (AAA) games on the Switch 2 are much smaller, averaging around 40 GB. Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade is almost 60% larger than these games, though a few other titles are similarly large – it’s an uncommon size.
The Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade on the Switch 2 Requires Nearly 100 GB of Space

It’s notable how large the game’s file size is for the Switch 2, as many games actually get smaller when they’re transferred to the system. For example, Assassin’s Creed Shadows takes up 103 GB on a PC, but only 62 GB on the Switch 2 – almost half the space. The large file size of the Final Fantasy VII Remake is likely due to its detailed lighting effects. The initial lighting looked poor, so the developers used the same high-quality rendering techniques as the PlayStation 5 version. While it’s unknown exactly how much this increased the file size, it definitely prevented the game from being smaller.
Here’s an update on the storage space needed for Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade on the Nintendo Switch 2:
Standard Edition: 90GB – 95GB
Limited Early Purchase Edition & Limited Early Purchase Digital Deluxe Editions: 93.8GB – 99GBThe official My Nintendo pages will be updated with this information shortly.

The initial Final Fantasy VII Remake came out in 2020, but this is a newer, improved version called Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade, which launched on PC and PlayStation 5 in 2021. Beyond its upcoming release on the Switch 2, the game is also being brought to Xbox Series X|S in 2026. Fans widely consider the original Final Fantasy VII to be a standout title in the series, and the remake has been very successful.
The Final Fantasy VII Remake brings back fond memories for fans of the original 1997 PlayStation game, but it’s also been completely updated for today’s consoles. This has allowed both longtime players and newcomers to enjoy the game, and it’s likely to be very popular on the Switch 2. While the game isn’t available until January, you can pre-order the Limited Early Purchase Edition from Nintendo now for $39.99. With a couple of months to go, you’ll have plenty of time to prepare your Switch 2 for it.
The highly anticipated game will be available to play on the Switch 2 starting January 22, 2026. Share your thoughts and discuss it with other fans in the ComicBook Forum!
