As a big fan of Where Winds Meet, I’ve learned that picking the right Mystic Arts is super important. There are tons of them to learn as you play, and it can be really tricky deciding where to spend your talent points to get the most out of battles. You really need to think about what will help you the most!
Starting a new character in Where Winds Meet can feel overwhelming because there’s a lot to learn quickly. If you want to get a head start in battles, focusing on unlocking and improving some of the Mystic Arts is a good idea.
What Are Mystic Arts?

In the game Where Winds Meet, Mystic Arts (also called Mystic Skills) are a collection of helpful abilities you can use to get an edge, both during fights and in other situations. These arts are divided into three main types:
- Offensive options focus on outright damage dealing. They may come with traversal benefits of some kind, but the main focus in on deploying them tactfully in combat. These are the ones you can actively equip and use during battle.
- Movement skills instead focus on helping you get around the map as the primary focus, with any combat benefits typically coming second. You can use these to dive into waters, run on walls, and more to enhance how you navigate the world.
- General is the category assigned to any skill that doesn’t fit neatly into one category or the other, or that feature focus changes for your character.
How Do You Unlock Mystic Arts?
As a player, I’m really excited about the Mystic Skills in Where Winds Meet! It looks like you’ll get some just by playing through the main story, which is awesome. But if you want all of them, or want to make your skills even stronger, you’ll need to do some of the side quests or spend the Talent Points you earn to unlock and upgrade them on the Talent Tree. It seems like there’s a lot of customization available, and I can’t wait to try it all out!
Okay, so learning new skills in this game is pretty unique. You basically ‘steal’ them! It usually involves a timing-based minigame – you have to react when a creature nearby does something cool, like it’s getting its inspiration from nature. You really gotta nail the timing to snag those Mystic Skills, but it’s super rewarding when you do!
Best Combative Mystic Arts To Build First
Tai Chi
| How to Unlock | Main Story |
|---|---|
| Combat Effect(s) |
|
| Out of Combat Effects(s) |
|
You’ll likely learn Tai Chi early in Where Winds Meet, and it’s a surprisingly powerful ability! It’s based on a real-world martial art and will quickly become one of your go-to combat techniques. You can use it to grab and throw both enemies and items. To unlock it, you’ll need to learn the Skill Theft ability and then defeat a bear after leaving with Ruby.
Cloud Steps
| How to Unlock | Main Story |
|---|---|
| Combat Effect(s) |
|
| Out of Combat Effects(s) |
|
Where Winds Meet has a ton to offer, particularly for players who enjoy completing achievements and side quests. A useful skill you can unlock early on lets you jump and powerfully slam back to the ground. This move is effective in combat, damaging enemies and disrupting their energy, and it also helps you reach otherwise inaccessible areas while exploring.
You can unlock the Cloud Steps skill early on at the General’s Shrine. To do so, investigate the cracked stone, then use your Fire Arrows to burn some bushes and reveal an opening. Inside, you’ll find a book that allows you to descend into the marked area.
Leaping Toad
| How to Unlock | Main Story |
|---|---|
| Combat Effect(s) |
|
Need a quick escape from an enemy? Try the Leaping Toad Skill to flip them and create some distance. This skill is also great for applying ongoing damage – using it twice in a row will inflict Venom, continuing to hurt your opponent even after you’ve moved away.
In Where Winds Meet, you can get a head start in combat by finding a hidden character called the Gold Toad – he’s disguised as a man in a frog pose at the General’s Shrine – before you begin your journey. This will unlock a powerful ability, the Leaping Toad Mystic Art, letting you gain an edge even at lower levels.
Meridian Touch
| How to Unlock | Meridian Touch (Fragment Quest) |
|---|---|
| Combat Effect(s) |
|
| Out of Combat Effects(s) |
|
In Where Winds Meet, two-handed swords are powerful but can be a little slower than other weapons. You can compensate for this by learning the Meridian Touch skill, which briefly freezes enemies, making them easy targets. Landing a hit on a frozen enemy also lowers their Qi, giving you an advantage in battle. Plus, you can use this skill on non-combat characters to trigger different effects.
You’ll find the Meridian Touch Mystic Skill a little later in the game, as you head back to the General’s Shrine. It’s available earlier than many other skills, but after the ones we already discussed. When you reach Stonewash Strand, you’ll notice people turned to stone. Talk to one of them to learn this new Mystic Skill.
Talon Strike
| How to Unlock | Main Story |
|---|---|
| Combat Effect(s) |
|
If you’re struggling to defeat an opponent, especially in a game against another player, unlocking the Talon Strike can be a game-changer. This attack quickly bypasses your enemy’s defenses, letting you follow up with powerful strikes for massive damage.
Okay, so getting this skill was a bit of a trek! You’ll need to explore the Palace of Annals and head to this little island nearby. Keep an eye out for a falcon flying around – you’re looking for its nest. It’s a dangerous spot, watch out for enemies, but the nest gives you the Talon Strike Mystic Art, and you can find the exact location marked in the image above. Definitely worth the effort though!
Best Movement And General Mystic Arts
Still Waters
| Type | General |
|---|---|
| How to Unlock | Main Story |
| Effect |
|
Still Waters is one of the first Mystic Skills you should unlock. It dramatically slows down time around your character, which is incredibly helpful in battles with multiple enemies. This allows you to move faster than your opponents, quickly navigate through crowds, and defeat them easily.
I actually unlocked this cool Mystic Art pretty early on, during that archery bit at the start of the game. It was a good hint that this ability is super useful when I’m playing as a ranged character and focusing on my archery skills.
Wind Sense
| Type | General |
|---|---|
| How to Unlock | Main Quest |
| Effect |
|
While skills can protect you from enemies, what about an ability that helps you avoid them altogether? With Wind Sense, you’ll be able to detect everything around you – useful items, dangerous foes, and everything in between. It reveals enemy vision range, helps you find hidden items, and even aids in healing your character.
It’s a relatively simple unlock, too, available in your Talent Tree in the Basic subsection.
Threefold Skywalk
| Type | Movement |
|---|---|
| How to Unlock | Main Quest |
| Effect |
|
Where Winds Meet blends adventure RPG elements with platforming challenges. A key ability, the Threefold Skywalk Mystic Skill, lets you jump three times in a row, helping you reach higher areas. You’ll automatically unlock this skill as you progress through the story, and it’s a good idea to use it frequently.
Threefold Skywalk isn’t just for getting around – it also lets you reach high places where you can shoot arrows at enemies.
