Dark Point Games, the studio behind games like Achilles: Survivor and Achilles: Legends Untold, just announced their next project, Brightfall. This cooperative, open-world survival roguelite is coming to PC via Steam in 2026, with plans to release on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and Nintendo Switch 2 afterward.
Here is an overview of the game, via its Steam page:
About
Make it through the darkness—or become a part of it.
Brightfall is a survival game for up to four players where you work together to explore and build in an open world. Set on a mysterious, forgotten island from the 1600s, you’ll need to craft tools and fight back against a spreading darkness to save the land. It features roguelite elements, meaning each playthrough will be unique.
Welcome to the Isle the Crown Pretends Doesn’t Exist
It’s 1666, and London has finally recovered from the Great Plague. However, new challenges await you. You find yourself washed ashore on Brightfall Island, a place with such a dark reputation that the Royal Navy actively avoids it.
Legend has it that every major plague started in this place – from the Black Death to the Justinian blight, and now a new outbreak. It’s shrouded in fog and protected by storms, but the kingdom still sends its prisoners here.
One of them was you.
You’ll need to search for resources, construct defenses, and battle enemies to maintain your dwindling hope—because if your light fades, your mind will too. Discover forgotten Celtic ruins, improve your abilities, and create better light sources to venture further into the constantly changing darkness.
But beware—light fades, monsters grow stronger, and even your friends can fall to the madness.
Beware the Living Darkness
Okay, so things are getting seriously creepy. I’m walking and the trees are all gnarled and twisted, not like anything I’ve ever seen. Even the birds have stopped singing! It feels like I’ve wandered into a really dark place, and honestly, it feels like something is watching me. It’s a really unsettling feeling.
On Brightfall, darkness isn’t simply a lack of light—it actively twists the landscape, deforming trees and stone, and ultimately erasing any trace of humanity.
But you are not powerless.
Every torch buys you a minute of sanity.
Use your power carefully to create a safe space amidst the darkness, fighting back against the spreading corruption bit by bit. The further you venture into danger, the brighter your guiding light needs to be.
Let it fade, and the island will take you back.
Hold the Light—Alone or Together
In Brightfall, you and up to three other players must work together to survive. The game focuses on a desperate fight against time and limited resources as darkness closes in. You’ll need to search for supplies, build tools, and protect your light source – all while dealing with the usual disagreements that happen when friends are under pressure!
Rather journey on your own? While the island won’t leave you entirely to your fate, a powerful, ancient spirit – a remnant of Celtic lore connected to the light – will offer guidance, heal your injuries, and alert you to danger when shadows gather.
Look, as a longtime fan, let me tell you – always be nice to your teammates, even if they are ghosts! You never know when you’ll end up needing a hand – literally, from beyond the grave. If one of us goes down, the others can actually bring them back to life using these things called Resurrection Tokens. They’re basically little bits of the magic that keeps all the bad stuff from overwhelming us, and they work wonders on a fallen comrade.
If we lose any of them, the whole expedition is over. Everything we’ve mapped out will be gone, the island will basically reset, and it’ll change all over again. It’s terrifying, honestly – we have to keep everyone safe!
Venture into the Unknown
Just beyond the safety of your base, you’ll find an island that’s constantly changing. Every time you fail, the land itself is altered – paths shift, familiar places disappear, and new ones emerge in their place.
There’s still hope! Each corrupted area you restore and each ancient beast you defeat creates a sanctuary – a safe haven that survives even when the world resets. These sanctuaries allow you to venture further – into burning deserts, icy cliffs, and ultimately, to the very source of the corruption.
The more you reclaim, the harder the island fights back.
Turn Fire and Iron Into Salvation
You begin with nothing – just your hands and a dim torch. You’ll scavenge for materials, craft basic clothes, and build a simple shelter to survive the elements. Eventually, you’ll forge iron tools, learn to use firearms, and create safe havens that push back the darkness.
Every journey you take helps you gather more resources – from lumber and stone to valuable minerals – and even build automated helpers to collect materials while you’re away. By collecting resources and learning new designs, you’ll transform your simple starting point into a secure and thriving base.
Not all heroes wield swords. Some build the light that lets the rest survive.
Die. Learn. Repeat.
Each adventure in Brightfall is just the start of a larger journey. The game keeps track of your progress and rewards, but it always presents new challenges, so you can’t become complacent.
As you overcome challenges, you gain new skills, discover unique strategies, and learn valuable insights. Each attempt makes you more powerful, unlocking new abilities and letting you create your own unique journey through a dark world. You can choose from different character classes and appearances, personalize your progression, and improve your skills without being affected by changes in the game world.
Okay, so the world totally changes after you die in this game – but thankfully, any knowledge or skills you’ve gained stick with you. And in Brightfall, that knowledge is super powerful – way more than just a simple advantage, it feels like a blazing fire!
Survive the Dark, or Become Part of It
Your sanity fades with the light.
Venture too deep into the darkness, and it will start to play tricks on your mind. What begins as the sound of wind soon seems like footsteps, and eventually, you’ll even question yourself, feeling an urge to remain.
The more time you spend there, the more you lose – your vision, your memories, even who you are. Eventually, there’s nothing left of your former self.
If individuals wander too far from the group, they transform into Shadows – creatures without thought who are instinctively drawn to the energy of those they once knew.
Only your teammates can save you, but they need to act quickly. Either pull your friend towards the light, or escape before the darkness consumes them.
One way or another, everyone answers the dark eventually.
