Beware – major spoilers ahead for the show Trap! The latest episode of The Simpsons cleverly referenced a recent M. Night Shyamalan film, but many fans believe the cartoon’s ending was actually superior. Season 37 of The Simpsons marks a fresh direction for the series, offering deeper insights into each character. This has been particularly enjoyable for viewers of Bart, as the show has highlighted his intelligence and resourcefulness when he’s focused on a prank or plan.
The latest episode revealed that Bart created a secret online network to buy concert tickets and resell them at hugely inflated prices. He’s become so unpopular that the town even called in the FBI to stop him. The episode then takes a turn, becoming a playful spoof of M. Night Shyamalan’s Trap, with Bart finding himself stuck inside a concert and desperately trying to escape. However, unlike the movie, Bart has a much happier outcome.
The Simpsons Takes On M. Night Shyamalan
Oh man, the latest Simpsons episode, ‘The Day of the Jack-up,’ was so good! Basically, Mr. Burns decides to build this massive, over-the-top concert hall called the ‘Circulus’ – it’s totally like the Sphere in Vegas, with huge concerts and crazy visuals. The whole town is buzzing trying to get tickets, and I was right there with Homer, desperately trying to snag some for Lisa to see the ‘Kneesock Dolls’! But here’s the catch – this shady online ticket reseller, ‘SeatMiser,’ somehow bought all the tickets to every single show! It’s a total mess, and it’s hilarious how they’re tackling this whole ticket scalping situation.
The situation escalates until Mayor Quimby brings in an FBI profiler to uncover the culprit, which turns out to be Bart, during a Kneesock Dolls concert. Bart discovers the concert was intentionally set up as a trap for SeatMiser, as the FBI knew he enjoyed bragging about his exploitative practices. From there, the plot borrows elements from the film Trap, with Bart attempting various escapes from the building. Ultimately, this storyline is more engaging and well-executed than the movie itself.
Why It’s Better Than Trap’s Ending

The movie Trap becomes quite chaotic in its final act. The killer, Cooper (Josh Hartnett), manages to escape the concert venue, but not without a lot of trouble. His identity is revealed when he’s cornered, allowing him to break free. Although he’s eventually caught (though his capture might not last), the film would have been stronger if he’d successfully escaped like the character Bart.
Even after the FBI realizes Bart is SeatMiser, he manages to escape thanks to a clever plan. They attempt to identify him as the culprit by unlocking his phone with Face ID, but it fails. Bart had been secretly using his fingerprint on his rear end to unlock the phone, so Face ID wouldn’t work. This simple detail is what allows him to avoid detection, differing from the events portrayed in the original story.
This version creates a stronger, more focused story for Bart. It lets him be imperfect, similar to Cooper in Trap, but avoids the unnecessary elements of the original. What are your thoughts? Share them in the comments and join the discussion in the ComicBook Forum!
