The Duskbloods Has Been in Development Since Before Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice Came Out – Rumour

FromSoftware, the studio behind popular games like Elden Ring, revealed their next project, The Duskbloods, earlier this year, but hasn’t shared many details since. Recently, a source told Vice that development actually began in 2019, and that the team is dedicating more effort to the fundamental gameplay of The Duskbloods than they have for any of their previous games.

A source says that FromSoftware began developing The Duskbloods well before they started promoting Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice. They’ve used this time to build what’s described as several new and exciting features for the game’s player-versus-player-versus-environment gameplay, and the development team is reportedly very pleased with the results.

According to a source who spoke with Vice, development on The Duskbloods began before marketing even started for Sekiro. This new title has reportedly undergone more gameplay testing and experimentation than any previous FromSoftware game. The source also says it features a lot of new ideas that the development team is excited about, blending both player-versus-environment and player-versus-player elements.

FromSoftware has been quiet about their new game, likely waiting until after the December 4th release of Elden Ring: Nightreign – The Forsaken Hollows to begin marketing it. This suggests they plan to reveal a new trailer for the game, titled The Duskbloods, at The Game Awards 2025.

I was so excited when I first heard about The Duskbloods back in April – it was announced alongside the new Nintendo Switch 2! From what I understand, it’s going to be a multiplayer-only game where up to eight players battle it out in a zone filled with both AI enemies and each other. It sounds like a really intense PvPvE experience! The developers have said combat will focus on close-range fighting and a wide range of weapons, which I think is awesome.

FromSoftware announced that The Duskbloods will feature over 12 playable characters, each with their own weapons and special abilities. These abilities will significantly alter gameplay, even impacting basic movements like running and jumping, and work alongside each character’s unique arsenal.

The characters in Bloodsworn have extraordinary powers fueled by their unique blood, making their actions much more spectacular than in our previous games. Even simple moves like running, jumping, and double jumping are fluid and easy to perform, and each character’s weapons and skills add even more possibilities for creative gameplay.

The new Elden Ring: Nightreign – The Forsaken Hollows expansion introduces two new characters you can play as, plus a couple of challenging new bosses. It also adds a unique in-game effect called The Great Hollow, which alters the landscape. You can see it all in action in the gameplay trailer released earlier this month.
