Let’s be honest: I’ve been going to theme parks for fifteen years, and I’ve never been a fan of the parades. To put it bluntly, I used to actively dislike them. They’re noisy, and they make it really difficult to get around the park for hours. I just never understood what people liked about them.
I think my parents are to blame for my long-held dislike of parades. We never went to them when I was growing up, and they always seemed to think they were silly. Somewhere along the way, I adopted their negative view and decided that watching parades was just a pointless activity. But I’ve realized now that I was mistaken.
Last week, I visited Universal Orlando for a media preview of their Christmas decorations and got a sneak peek at the new Epic Universe. During the trip, we watched the Universal Holiday Parade featuring Macy’s. I wasn’t initially excited about seeing the parade, but it completely changed my mind, and I’m now rethinking my previous opinions about it.
It was more than just a good time – it was amazing! Everyone from Universal seemed genuinely excited to be part of the parade, except maybe the person piloting one of the balloons who was trying to avoid a light post. The little boy beside me must have given dozens of high-fives. The parade featured everything you’d expect: stilt walkers, dancers, characters in costume, Shrek-themed floats, even moving Minion Christmas trees! And of course, there was Santa and huge balloons, just like the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade.

There was a special feeling in the air – a shared joy that connected everyone. It felt like we were all experiencing the parade together, a diverse group of people – kids, grandparents, and everyone in between, from goths and cosplayers to families and food lovers – all united as we watched the floats go by.
I’m not sure how to describe it. We were all just completely immersed in the holiday spirit, as if everyone had let go and enjoyed the moment together. It felt like we all paused and experienced something special, and even though it only lasted about half an hour, it felt like one incredible journey on the Monsters Unchained ride.
Look, I’ve never really considered myself a parade person, but this one… wow! I genuinely had a fantastic time at the Universal Holiday Parade Featuring Macy’s, and I’m already planning to go back next year. Seriously, seeing everyone else’s reactions, I’m pretty sure you’ll love it too. It was just a really great experience.
From November 21st to January 4th, Universal Studios Orlando is full of holiday cheer! You can enjoy festive food, beautiful decorations, and even see The Grinch. The nighttime show happens daily around 5:00 or 5:30 PM, depending on the park’s closing time. Find a good viewing spot near the large Christmas tree, get ready to enjoy the show, and keep an eye out for the clever little details – Universal is known for them!
