Daryl Dixon Ending Highlights a Harsh Reality for The Walking Dead (For the First Time in 15 Years)

The world of The Walking Dead is something of a puzzle in today’s entertainment scene. Unlike many popular shows, it doesn’t rely on superheroes or futuristic battles. Yet, it’s remained surprisingly popular for 15 years, starting with the original TV series. A big reason is name recognition – Robert Kirkman’s comic books are still widely read, and dedicated fans always check out new shows and movies connected to the story. But even Kirkman probably didn’t expect the franchise to grow so much! While the main series was still on the air, several spin-off shows were created, each following different groups of survivors and exploring how they cope with the zombie apocalypse.

After The Walking Dead ended, AMC began creating spin-off shows focused on popular characters. Maggie and Negan starred in The Walking Dead: Dead City, and Daryl Dixon followed. Surprisingly, Daryl’s show is set to finish its run before any of the others, potentially leading the entire franchise to a level of success it hasn’t seen in over ten years.

Daryl Dixon’s Journey Is About to Reach Its Conclusion

By the end of The Walking Dead, Daryl decides to leave the Commonwealth. With his friend Rick missing, it’s a constant reminder of his loss, and he needs a change of scenery. When Maggie proposes a trip across the world to investigate the origins of the zombie virus, Daryl eagerly accepts. This new path isn’t easy, though, as he faces not only walkers, but also dangerous groups of people. Luckily, Daryl isn’t alone – he makes new friends and reconnects with Carol, who continues to be a valuable ally.

The season finale of The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon finds the group getting ready to travel to America, hinting at potential appearances from characters we know from the original Walking Dead series in Season 4. However, their ship is destroyed, leaving them stranded and back where they started as they head into the final season. While Daryl will likely make it back to the US before the show ends, it’s unclear if this sets up future seasons or if it truly marks the end of The Walking Dead on television.

The Walking Dead Doesn’t Have Much of a Future

Daryl has become the most successful character to come from The Walking Dead television series, even though he wasn’t featured in the original comic books. He’s popular enough to carry his own show, but focusing on Daryl means other characters haven’t had a chance to develop. Unfortunately, many of the characters who made the later seasons of The Walking Dead enjoyable are gone, and it’s unlikely they’ll return. While The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live briefly revisited the Commonwealth to give Rick some family time, it seems like a limited series. Dead City may also be ending soon; its third season is coming up, but it doesn’t look like it’s building towards a larger storyline or crossover.

It would be a fitting end for the series to see Rick, Daryl, Maggie, and the rest of the group unite for one final battle against a common enemy. However, that seems unlikely now. With so many characters going their separate ways, and no plans in place to bring them back together, it appears everyone will finish their story individually, leaving behind the teamwork that defined the show. It’s disappointing to see such a popular franchise like The Walking Dead end on a low note, but we’ll always have the memories of its exciting early seasons.
