Recent Update Suggests Another Shonen Jump Manga Could Be Cancelled Soon

2025 has been a tough year for Shueisha’s Weekly Shonen Jump magazine, with more series being canceled than usual, especially newer ones that could have drawn in more readers. Many of the new manga launched this year haven’t sold well, and some, like Kaedegami and Ekiden Bros, were stopped before their first collected volumes even came out. While this year hasn’t been great, Weekly Shonen Jump, which began in 1968, is famous for publishing hugely popular manga like Dragon Ball, One Piece, Naruto, and Bleach, which helped make manga popular worldwide. Even after decades, it’s still the best-selling manga magazine ever, thanks to recent hits like Jujutsu Kaisen and My Hero Academia that continue to shape the Shonen genre.

Sometimes, manga series with low sales are cancelled before they can finish their stories. Recently, concerns arose about the future of Otr of the Flame due to poor sales, and now another series is facing the same problem. This year, WSJ has already cancelled over ten series, and Harukaze Mound could be next. According to recent sales data shared on X (@WSJ_manga) from Oricon, Harukaze Mound’s sales are much lower than successful titles, similar to series that have already been cancelled, like Kaedegami and NICE PRISON. The fact that these series aren’t even being ranked suggests they may be discontinued soon.

What Is the Plot of Harukaze Mound?

Harukaze Mound, created by Togo Goto and illustrated by Kento Matsuura, is a sports manga about twin brothers, Aokaze and Nagiharu Kuzumi. After attending a baseball game, the twins shared a dream: to one day play together at Koshien, Japan’s famous baseball stadium. Now in their third year of middle school, Aokaze is a gifted player, while Nagiharu mostly warms the bench.

Aokaze is incredibly talented, often compared to professional players, but his twin brother, Nagiharu, has always felt overshadowed. That changes when Nagiharu meets a promising catcher, reigniting his determination to match his brother’s skill. This manga is based on a one-shot story published in Weekly Shonen Jump in 2022, created by the same author and artist. The full series began in June 2025 and currently has 23 chapters. While it’s been released, reader reactions have been mixed, with many not fully connecting with the story.

Over time, people seem to be losing interest in the series. However, with only one volume released on November 4th, 2025, it’s still possible it could become more popular. Although things don’t look good for Harukaze Mound right now, it hasn’t been officially cancelled. You can read the series on the Manga Plus app.
