I’m hearing some interesting chatter online about Donald Trump and South Park. Apparently, the show has been relentlessly poking fun at him and his time in office, but the former president has never actually said a word about it publicly. It’s a strange silence, and it’s definitely got people talking.
Donald Trump doesn’t find South Park funny
On a recent episode of The Daily Beast Podcast, Anthony Scaramucci, who used to be White House Communications Director, revealed that Donald Trump really dislikes being made fun of. According to Scaramucci, Trump doesn’t appreciate satire at all. While Trump often publicly complains about late-night talk show hosts and the news media, he hasn’t said much about animated shows that parody him.
Scaramucci said Trump decides whether to comment on media coverage based on his overall strategy. He’s fine with appearances on shows like 60 Minutes, especially if the journalists asking questions aren’t critical of him. Conversely, he doesn’t seem bothered by even unflattering content, like the animated videos making fun of him and Vance, finding it amusing. Essentially, Trump focuses on attacking what he sees as biased news outlets and isn’t overly concerned with other forms of coverage, even if it’s negative.
The show has consistently depicted Donald Trump in outlandish and provocative situations. In recent seasons, South Park has ridiculed his looks and presented him in storylines that include inappropriate relationships with Satan and Vice President J.D. Vance.
Comedian Patton Oswalt discussed Trump’s response to the show on the podcast, The Last Laugh. He suggested Trump might be staying quiet because the show is doing well financially.
He observed that Trump is easily appeased by financial gain. While Trump might feel personally disrespected, he ultimately values and respects situations with exceptionally high financial success and large sums of money.
Oswalt explained that this person is unable to appreciate shows like South Park or John Oliver for their quality. He only focuses on viewership numbers, and that’s his sole measure of worth.
