Embark Studios has addressed a significant exploit in their PvPvE shooter, ARC Raiders, that let players open locked rooms without keys. They’ve released a quick update to temporarily penalize players who use the exploit while they develop a lasting solution.
The latest update is minor, primarily addressing a couple of glitches. The developers specifically called the fix for the ‘locked room’ glitch a quick, important fix. Now, players who try to bypass locked doors without the proper keys will be met with hidden flamethrowers that cause significant damage, and can even eliminate their character.
Players were very upset about a bug in the game and were asking Embark Studios to ban anyone who exploited it. Before the recent update, the studio hadn’t said anything about how they planned to fix the problem.
In ARC Raiders, dying has serious consequences. You’ll lose all the loot you’ve collected and any gear you brought with you on the mission. Interestingly, players who open locked doors might even find and loot the remains of others who tried the same exploit. For a complete list of changes in this update, see the full patch notes below.
I’ve been following ARC Raiders since it came out last month, and it’s been awesome to see how well it’s done for Embark Studios! It actually hit a peak in players earlier this month that was even higher than Battlefield 6 for a weekend, which is incredible. While we don’t have official sales numbers yet, the folks at Alinea Analytics think it’s about to reach 7 million copies sold – that’s a huge accomplishment!
Of these 7 million copies sold, roughly 4 million are for the Steam version, with 750,000 of those sales occurring in just the past week.
