Doctor Who spin-off confirms alternative pop music icon for soundtrack as release date revealed

The soundtrack for The War Between the Land and the Sea will be released soon, and the BBC has announced that it will include a cover song performed by popular singer Alison Goldfrapp.

The music for the new Doctor Who spin-off, composed by Lorne Balfe, will be released digitally on December 5th.

Goldfrapp and Balfe will contribute a cover of David Bowie’s “Heroes” to the album, and it will be available on December 12th.

Goldfrapp explained that recording a cover of ‘Heroes’ felt fitting for the show because of its themes of strength and togetherness when facing difficult challenges. She described collaborating with Lorne as a great experience, praising his skill in creating emotional and cinematic orchestral arrangements that added depth to the song.

Balfe explained that composing the music for The War Between Land and Sea was like bridging two different worlds – the present day and the timeless ocean. His goal was to immerse viewers in a captivating story filled with mystery, awe, and struggle, hoping the music would reflect humanity’s ongoing effort to coexist with powerful, unknown forces.

Russell T Davies described Lorne’s music as breathtakingly beautiful, saying it feels like it rises from the earth, across the water, and up into the heavens.

The upcoming story, “The War Between the Land and the Sea,” takes place in the Doctor Who universe and focuses on the military group UNIT. They must face a new threat: the Sea Devils, an ancient and powerful species who have suddenly appeared.

Russell Tovey and Gugu Mbatha-Raw will lead the cast, and several familiar faces from Doctor Who will also appear.

The War Between the Land and the Sea is coming to BBC One and BBC iPlayer from 7th December.
