Originally released in 1984 from the creators at Troma Entertainment, The Toxic Avenger has been reimagined with a new reboot. This version features improved special effects and a cast full of well-known actors.
Peter Dinklage stars as Winston Gooze, a factory janitor who transforms into a bizarre superhero after falling into a pool of hazardous chemicals. Kevin Bacon plays a flamboyant and untrustworthy CEO, and Elijah Wood embodies a classic, creepy assistant.
The SFX reviewer found the film intensely gory, with a lot of beheadings, dismemberment, and evisceration that would likely disturb many viewers. However, they also praised its constant, rapid-fire jokes and visual gags, comparing the sheer volume to a burst sewage pipe.
You can now purchase The Toxic Avenger on 4K Ultra HD, Blu-ray, and DVD, including an unrated version. Special features include commentary from the director, over 86 minutes of behind-the-scenes footage, and a recording of the San Diego Comic-Con panel.
