As a huge comic book fan, I’ve always found it fascinating how DC built its biggest heroes. They basically modeled them after the Greek Gods – it’s super cool! Batman, though, was different. He was based on Hades, the god of the underworld, but unlike Superman, Wonder Woman, Aquaman, Green Lantern, and the Flash, he didn’t have any powers. Still, DC made him incredibly dangerous. He wasn’t super strong or fast, but he always had a plan to take down anyone, hero or villain, because he meticulously studied their weaknesses. It’s amazing! Of course, there are versions of Batman from different universes who do have superpowers, but the classic Batman relies on his mind and preparation.
Here are three versions of Batman who have actual powers, making him more powerful than ever.
Red Death

Red Death is a version of Batman from another universe (Earth-52). He started as a villain and fought alongside Barbatos, a powerful being from the Dark Multiverse. This Batman was hardened by the repeated deaths of his allies, the Robins, who assisted him in fighting crime. Driven to stop villains by any means necessary, he defeated all of the Flash’s enemies, took their technology, and ultimately tried to destroy the Flash himself.
The goal was for Bruce Wayne to demonstrate he could wield the Speed Force better than Barry Allen. After defeating Barry and absorbing his powers, he transformed into the Red Death and began systematically eliminating all of his enemies. Meanwhile, Barry Allen, trapped within his own mind, fought to regain control. This connection to the Speed Force has also dramatically boosted Bruce’s intelligence, making him exceptionally brilliant.
Devastator

Devastator is a version of Batman from another Earth (Earth-1). He became a dangerous enemy of the multiverse as part of Barbatos’ team of Dark Knights. But before that, he was a hero, just like the Batman we know, and fought alongside Superman in the Justice League. Like the main Batman, this Bruce Wayne also prepared for the possibility of his allies turning evil. Instead of kryptonite, he created the Doomsday Virus to stop Superman. When Superman became corrupted and began killing – including Lois Lane – Batman realized he had no choice but to use it.
To defeat Superman, Batman deliberately contracted the Doomsday Virus, but it came at a terrible price – his mind. He began transforming into a monstrous Doomsday-like being, and the virus spread, devastating the entire planet. Just before the world was destroyed, The Batman Who Laughs rescued him. Together, they turned their attention to conquering the heroes of another world. While some alternate Batmans are brilliant, this version lost much of his intelligence. Despite this, he’s incredibly powerful and possesses the ability to heal from almost any injury, even regenerating lost body parts.
Bat-Lantern

Bat-Lantern is an alternate version of Batman, similar to other combined heroes. Specifically, he’s from Earth-32 and wields a Green Lantern Ring. In this reality, Bruce Wayne attempted to become a hero, but suffered a major failure that nearly cost him his life. However, impressed by his courage, Abin Sur chose Bruce instead of Hal Jordan to receive a Green Lantern Ring, transforming him into the new bearer of its power.
After achieving great success – including defeating Sinestro for the Guardians and assisting a skeptical James Gordon in fighting crime – this Batman eventually left Earth to track down the escaped Sinestro. Meanwhile, Clark Kent, Barry Allen, and Hippolyta (Wonder Woman) stepped up to become the new Lanterns protecting the planet. This version of Batman retains all of his usual abilities, now amplified by the powers of his power ring.
